Sergio Mendes & The New Brasil '77 - Sergio Mendes & The New Brasil '77. CD. (Label: Collectors Choice, Cat.No: CCM790) As the title suggests, this is the new line up of Sergio's backing band Brasil and the sound has developed in the changing music climate of the late '70's. The slick R&B / pop productions might have been a shock fro many fans og Mendes' '60's output but the Latin heat is still firmly there. This album features two covers of Stevie Wonder songs and an appearance by his band Wonderlove.	Sergio Mendes & Brasil '77 - Homecooking. CD. (Label: Collectors Choice, Cat.No: CCM789) Mendes' first album with new band was released in 1977. It was a noticeable change in direction away from his usual blend of Brazillian infused pop to amore funky soul style. Long term fans feel that Sergio had been through some extremely lean years career-wise by the time this album came out; it stands out as a real triumph. Featuring songs by Gilberto Gil, Joao Donato, Elton John and Edgar Winter, it perfectly highlights the mans diverse musical tastes.

(Label: BAR, Cat.No: NSBARCD003) Thirty track compilation that brings together the best of classic and modern Salsa music over two chronologically sequenced CDs. Compiled by salsa don Lubi Jovanovic, this is two hours of high quality music with big names and independent artists listed side by side. Including tracks by Los Brujos Del Son, Latin Brothers, Mario Feliciano, Freddy Cruz y Fuerza Latina, Luisito Rosario and Wilson Saoko y su Orquesta. Great value.	Ibrahim Ferrer - Mi Sueno. CD. (Label: World Circuit, Cat.No: WCD077) The last album made by the late, great Cuban singer. Having left the album unfinished before his death in 2005, the demos for the final few tracks were temporarily lost. Happily the task has been completed as this was the 78 year old's dream album, a set of songs completely devoted to the most meltingly romantic of all Cuban styles, the bolero. All Ferrer fans will be glad to know that this isn't a cut and paste job of an album, where random tracks from various sources have been pulled together to get the limited material out into public domain; it was constructed with the aid of a letter that Ferrer had transcribed for him on his death bed. It stands as a more than fitting monument to a truly legendary Cuban singer.

(Label: Nascente, Cat.No: NSBOX 030) Thirty track album that explores the ways in which latin music, in all of its many forms, has influenced today’s music scene.This compilation delves into how the traditional sounds out of Cuba, Puerto Rico and Spain (to name but a few) has influenced producers from Bristol to Bergen,stopping off on the way in more predictable origins, such as Havana and Barcelona. Compiled by DJ Dom Servini, this is a fiery combo of Latin Lounging Bar / Club and chillgrooves.	Carmen - Gypsies / Widescreen. Dble CD. (Label: Angel Air, Cat.No: SJPCD225) Special double CD set which includes the original line ups last album: 1974's The Gypsies and an album which has occupied David for the past 10 years and is now released for the first time: Widescreen. Their critically acclaimed fusion progressive rock group continues into the new millenium with this remastered and new album. Booklet includes rare unseen photos from David & Angela Allen’s scrapbook and informative liner notes.
Manteca! The Roots Of Afro-cuban Jazz - Various. Dble CD. (Label: Giant Step Records, Cat.No: GIST 008) Thirty eight track celebrating Cubop, a trend in jazz once described as avant garde after the emergence of Dizzy Gillespie and Stan Kenton in the '40's. Featuring the best from Dizzy, Stan, Milt Jackson, Macho and Woody Herman. The second disc features eight tracks from Machito and his Cuban Orchestra featuring Charlie Parker and Flip Phillips as well as tracks by Tito Puente, George Shearing and many more. If only all history lessons were so damn listenable.	John Hassell - Earthquake Island. CD. (Label: Tomato, Cat.No: TMT2024) Earthquake Island was Hassell's first project supported by a traditional lineup two guitarists, a bassist, and several percussionists. Rhythms from Latin American and the Caribbean appear for the only time (so far) in this world citizen's recordings, and on a couple of tracks there's even a guest vocalist named Clarice Taylor. Earthquake Island is also the artist's least discussed album.
Lila Downs - Tree Of Life. CD. (Label: Virgin Liberty, Cat.No: VNDCD94) The 2000 release by the half Mexican singer / songwriter. Again it is in her unique blend of World, Latin, multi lingual Opera, Blues and Gospel. An extremely talented artist, this will appeal to any world beat fans and any one with an eclectic record collection (virtually everything you own features at some point on these thirteen tracks!)	Baden Powell - Baden Plays Vinicius. CD. (Label: Wrasse / Naïve, Cat.No: WN145092) The best example of a Brazillian guitar hero, Bedan Powell recorded for four decades and recorded fifty albums. His influential classical bossa nova style came from his Jazz background where he played electric guitar. Playing in the clubs from an early age, he quickly became a huge figure in Brazillian music. This is a collection og acoustic guitar solos based on the work of contemporary Brazilian composer Marcus Vinicius. Lila Downs - La Sandunga. CD. (Label: Virgin Records, Cat.No: 5942472) 1997 debut album by the half Mexican singer / songwriter. Incorporating elements from both of her parents cultures (Mexican and American), Lila fuses Jazz, Blues, Latino, African and Brazillian traditions. Clearly a highly talented lady, she decides to sing in English, Spanish and four different Mexican dialects. Her vocals are also helped by her operatic training. A wonderfully rich and exotic album fillled with her own variations of Mexican folk songs and originals.	Carmen Miranda - Extraordinary Girl. CD. (Label: El, Cat.No: ACMEM93CD) Twenty five rare cuts from Carmen in her '50's pomp. Much of the material has previously only been available on hard to find South American compilations. Touching on vintage Sambas, marches. Bossa Nova, Tropicalla and Latin Jazz during her triumphant Brazilian years, this is essential Miranda.
Tito Puente - Big World Of (The Soul Of Latin Music). CD. (Label: El, Cat.No: ACMEM94CD) Twenty track compilation concentrating on the early gloy years of one of the most important percussionists of all time. All tracks are culled from rare South American sources, they all established his incredible reputation. Includes: "Cuban Cutie", "Espinita", "Mambo Con Puente" and "Mambo La Roca."	Jose Feliciano - Live At The Blue Note, NY. CD. (Label: SPV / Yellow, Cat.No: SPV97822) The Latin born singer songwriter is one of the most popular singers within his genre. Digitally remastered performance from New York. His thirteen track set list is made up of classics like: "Jealous Guy", "Light My Fire", "La Bamba" and "California Dreaming." Digipack version.
