13th Floor Elevators - The Legendary Group At Their Best!. 4-CD Box Set. (Collectables - COL00892)

Exactly what we've all been waiting for- all four 'official' Elevators albums (that's 'Psychedelic Sounds Of', 'Easter Everywhere', 'Bull Of The Woods', and the very un-live 'Live' for the uninitiated) together in one shiny, woodmounted box set. No fan of West Coast music (even though they were from Texas- well, it's in the West isn't it? Stop nitpicking!!) can afford to be without this- it should be compulsory to own it. There are few sounds as heavenly as the twang of Roky Erickson's guitar- and it sounds even more incredible in this format. This is a beautiful looking box set. Slip this inside your house. (What a terrible joke- Ed)

13th Floor Elevators - Reverberations. Dble CD. (Atom Music - ATOM2007)

With guitarist’s Roky Erickson’s psychotic vocals, and Tommy Hall’s electronically amplified jug, The Elevators caused a sensation. On top of this, the bass from John Ike Walton’s drums were so powerful it was said it was necessary to chain his drums to the stage. Disc 1 features The Psychedelic Sounds Of The 13th Floor Elevators album, disc 2 is mainly made up of material from their final album "Bull Of The Woods", which was put together after the band was broken up, due to Roky being committed to a State Hospital for the Criminally Insane! What we have here is the legacy of a group, now widely regarded for their work, to the extent ZZ Top, R.E.M. and Primal Scream have all covered their material.

Compiled from their recordings for International Artists between 1966 and 1969 this features all their groundbreaking work plus the recently discovered nugget "I Don't Ever Want To Come Down" and a manic version of Van Morrison and Them's garage classic "Gloria".
