Allen Ginsberg - Kaddish. CD. (Water Music - WATER170)

Subtitled "Allen Ginsberg Reads Kaddish- A 20th Century American Ecstatic American Narrative Poem," this 1966 release was recorded in front of a live audience at Brandeis University in Boston in 1964. Based on the traditional Hebrew mourning prayer ("kaddish"), this poem is dedicated to Ginsberg's mother Naomi, who died in 1956 in a mental hospital. Written in 1958 in one non-stop 40 hour marathon session fueled by dexedrine, a tiny hit of LSD 25, and many cups of coffee, Kaddish stands as an epic testament to Ginsberg's literary talent. Original artwork featuring the cover photo by Richard Avedon. Original liner notes by Ginsberg and new in-depth notes by noted Beat-era scholar and writer Harvey Kubernik. First time on CD!

Allen Ginsberg - Ginsberg’s Thing. LP. (Get Back - GET422)

Recorded at the Festival Of The Two Worlds in, Italy in 1967, this spoken word album by the beat generation multi-medial artist captures the undisputed master of the hippie movement. Also this documents the liaison between Ginsberg and the founder of the Italian school of poetry, Giuseppe Ungaretti, whose poems are here translated and declaimed by the American guru. Ginsberg, known for his bizarre live acts and sharp criticism of the western world through farce and sarcasm, was here listened to carefully by the authorities and then charged with accusations of violating the Italian penal code. His response was to show up at the police station carrying a bouquet of flowers and gesturing a mudra over the police officer’s head to expel demons!180 gram vinyl pressing.
