Allman Brothers Band - One Way Out. Dble CD. (Sanctuary Records - SANDD256)

The Beacon Theatre in New York has become the Allman’s second home this decade, the scene of some of their most spectacular concert runs. After nine classic shows in 2002, the band returned for eight more in 2003, from which they’ve compiled this live double. With original members Gregg Allman and Butch Trucks still maintaining the band’s spirit, the Allmans rekindle all the passion of their early 70s peak on a fiery collection of blues classics and ABB standards, such as ‘Whippin’ Post’, ‘Dreams’ and the inevitable ‘Midnight Rider’.

Allman Brothers Band - Dreams. 6-LP Box Set. (Capricorn - 839417)

Lavish six LP set (with small cut mark on box) covering the very best of the Allman Brothers' career (Hour Glass,Allman Joys,31st February). Due to the success of the set when it was first issued in 1989, the band reformed so obviously nothing from the 90s is included here. What is here is five hours of blazing southern blues-rock including live and studio recordings from 1966-1988. Comes complete with a 36 page booklet. The definitive word on the Allman Brothers.

Allman Brothers Band - American University 12/13/70. CD. (Sanctuary Records - CMQCD1186)

The title pretty much sums it up really: a lengthy live jamming album recorded as part of the American University series in 1970 (kind of like the US equivalent to Rock Goes To College) from this revered and somewhat ad hoc Southern Rock ensemble. Beards, stetsans and huge Winnebagos spring to mind at the sound of each chord. The interplay between keyboardist Gregg Allman and guitarists Duane Allman (who departed this world shortly after) and Berry Oakley is phenomenal, particularly on the classically-influenced sections they were so fond of slipping in at the time.

Allman Brothers Band - Allman Brothers Band. CD. (Polydor - AA3145312572)

Long overdue reissue on CD for this genre-defining Southern Rock band's debut album. Originally released in 1969, this was the album that gave us 'Whipping Post' 'Dreams' and a storming version of Muddy Waters' "Trouble No More". Debuts don't come much better than this.
