Angel - Angel/Helluva Band. CD.
(B.G.O. Records - BGOCD716)
At last available officially on CD!! Two of the finest hard rock albums you will ever hear on one disc, from the Washington DC band that straddled the boundaries between glittering glam and synth-filled prog-pomp perfection like no other has before or since. Discovered playing in a bar by Kiss' Gene Simmons on a rare night off, they immediately signed to Casablanca and were marketed as the polar opposite to the New Yorkers- all dressed in white, with long flowing robes and a saintly aura (although in reality the band were hellraisers in excelsis). Influenced by Yes, Heep, Sweet, Queen, Zep, Purple, ELP and even Genesis in places, yet with a party rock sensibility that only an American band could bring to the mixture (derived in part from their pedigrees in sunshine pop bands such as Bux and Cherry People), and blessed by the incredible frontline of vocalist Frank Dimino, guitarist Punky Meadows and keyboardist Gregg Giuffria, Angel should have hit the big time in a major way but never did. These two albums still represent the pinnacle of their artistic achievement and if any 70s rock fan out there HASN'T heard 'The Fortune' 'Mariner' 'Feelin Right' 'Tower' 'Long Time' 'On And On' 'Mirrors' or 'Chicken Soup' then they haven't lived, matey boy!! Both albums have been digitally remastered, but they're so sonically perfect to begin with that it doesn't really matter anyway. Buy this CD. Now. | ![]() |
