Ars Nova - Ars Nova. CD. (Sundazed - SC6207)

Great and much underrated US '60's psych mixing atmospheric acid rock with classical and medieval music. An East Coast experimental, avant-garde band, in 1968 they made this their debut album which is now taken from the original analog Elektra stereo master tapes. The diverse epic features the heavy fuzz guitar psych masterpiece "And How am I To Know" (which sounds spookily like a track by The Third Power) and Zig-zags through an array of brass-laced avant-rock/psych originals such as 'Fields Of People' and Richard Strauss' 'Zarathustra', as well as mini-medieval psych gems such as the opening "Pavan for my lady". ARS NOVA was anything but three chords and a cloud of dust and the brainy NYC combo scored its first gig of note in 1968, opening for the Doors at the Fillmore East.
