Babe Ruth - Babe Ruth/Stealin' Home. CD. (B.G.O. Records - BGOVD491)

Third and fouth albums from celebrated (but oft overlooked at the time) UK female fronted prog combo, released here as a twofer one CD. 'First Base' was the last album that original guitarist and songwriter Alan Shacklock recoded with the group: as such it still displays his fascination with Westerns ('A Fistful Of Dollars') and his soul leanings (hence the cover of 'We Are The People Who Are Darker Than Blue'- kind of odd when sung by a white woman!!) By 'Stealin' Home' (no relation to the Ian Matthews album of the same name) he had been replaced by Bernie Marsden, later of Whitesnake and Alaska, and the songwriting had taken a more commercial direction. This was the last album that vocalist Janita Haan recorded with the band: she was replaced soon after by Ellie Hope.

Babe Ruth - First Base. CD. (Repertoire Records - REP4554)

First Base (1972) was British hard rock group Babe Ruth's biggest and probably their best album. This album is an interesting junction between hard rock and progressive rock. The two driving forces behind this album were guitarist Alan Shacklock, who was the main songwriter, and vocalist Janita Haan, who came out as the perfect balance between Janis Joplin and Robert Plant. Nice digi pak re-issue with original Roger Dean artwork and 2 bonus tracks taken from the Harvest single from 1972.

Babe Ruth - First Base/Amar Caballero. CD. (B.G.O. Records - BGOCD382)

1972 and 1974 releases which were an interesting junction between hard rock and progressive rock and the vocalist Janita Haan, who came out as the perfect balance between Janis Joplin and Robert Plant- although obviously with bigger 'lungs' than the latter. Tracks: Wells Fargo; The Runaways; King Kong; Black Dog; The Mexican/For A Few Dollars More; Joker; Lady; Broken Cloud; Gimme Some Leg; Baby Pride; Cool Jerk; We Are Holding On; Doctor Love; Amar Caballero (Si Ton Ni Son): (a) El Caballero De La Reina Isabella, (b) Hombre De La Guitara, [c] El Testament De N'Amelia.
