Blues Project - Live At Town Hall. CD.

More of a psychedelic rock and jazz band than yer actual blues band, this 1967 album captures the exciting live sound of one of the finest psych jamming bands on the East Coast. Al Kooper, Steve Katz and Danny Kalb would later go on to appear in the platinum selling Blood, Sweat and Tears.

Blues Project - Planned Obsolescence. CD. (One Way Records - OW 32642)

On this 1968 album, the slimmed down Project show their love for all kinds of music by including a number of motifs within their own unique brand of rock. Utilising flutes and violins with flashes of middle eastern music and the odd classical motif, this is an accomplished album length stew of psych, jazz and rock.

Blues Project - Projections. LP. (Verve/forecast - FTS-3008)

Easily the best album by this New York based band fearturing Al Kooper and Mike Bloomfield. The name is misleading since the band played in a psychedelic rock style with really excellent guitar and keyboard work. "I Can't Keep From Crying" and "Flute Thing" are particularly memorable excursions on this great album.

Blues Project - Reunion In Central Park. CD. (One Way Records - MCAD-22186)

Reforming in 1973 to play this live show, the Blues Project showed that 3 years playing apart had not dimmed their enthusiasm, talent or capacity to make a fine blues and psych tinged jazz rock sound. A suitable epitaph to a great band.
