C Cat Trance - Karadara, The Cream Of C Cat Trance. CD. (Cherry Red - CDMRED280) Very forward-thinking (for the time) and left-field avant-funk-dance from the mid 80s, from musicians formerly associated with the equally odd Medium Medium. Years ahead of everyone else, they married the clipped electro-funk beats of ESG, The Pop Group and The Sequence to world sounds and the burgeoning 'festi trance' style (predating Enigma and Transglobal Underground by about five years) although their own influences were more steeped in Can, Captain Beefheart and Hawkwind. The one constant throughout these juxtapositions is Rees Lewis's wailing sax-playing, which comes across superbly on all 17 tracks, taken from their first EP and their four albums originally released on Ink Records. There are also five unreleased tunes from the 'album that never was'. Gladly, this CD 'is'.
