Can - Anthology: 1968-93. Dble CD. (Spoon - CDSPOON 3031)

Tasty anthology that covers the above period and includes such classics as "Father Cannot Yell", "Soup", "Mushroom", "Outside My Door", and "Mother Upduff" through to "I Want More", "Aspectacle", "Hoolah Hoolah", "She Brings The Rain" "Mother Sky" the edited "Halleluwah", the full "Dizzy Dizzy" and "Moonshake". 29 tracks in total- all mindblowing toons, but remember, so called indie kids- it's just German prog, you know.

Can - Can. CD. (Spoon - CDSPOON 28)

1979 release from Can ,now presented here on CD and containing the following tracks: "All Gates Open" 2. "Safe" 3. "Sunday Jam" 4. "Sodom" 5. "Aspectacle" 6. "E.F.S. No. 99", "Can Can", "Ping Pong" and "Can Be". These recordings found them augmented by the former Traffic rhythm section of bassist Roscoe Gee (leaving Holger Czukay to move over to the role of 'musical editor') and percussionist Rebop Kwaku Baah, plus saxophonist Olaf Kubler, once with Amon Duul. The sound employed was far more conventional than before: who knows what path the band may have traversed had they not split soon after (although various reformations in the 80s and 90s followed) Worth hearing, but prepare yourselves to be surprised!!

Can - Ege Bamyasi. CD. (Mute - CDSPOON8)

The definitive recording from the Suzuki-fronted lineup, the one that gave us 'Pinch' 'Sing Swan Song' and 'Vitamin C', (later nicked wholesale by Blur) and cemented Can's position as the most sonically unusual (with the possible exeception of Faust) of all German bands, and the most influential. The clattering, rolling percussion of Jaki Liebezeit, on top of which lay the sparse guitar and bass souns of Karoli and Czukay, flanked by the adroit Rhodes pummelling of Irmin Schmidt and topped by Damo's uncontrollable and unpredictable rantings, was and still is one of the genre-defining sounds of 'Kraut Rock' and has rarely been equalled- even by the band themselves, Remastered Hybrid SACD edition (will play on CD,SACD players and compatible DVD players) taken from original tapes, featuring new sleevenotes, original artwork and piccies. Still no idea of the lyrics, then. . .

Can - Future Days. CD. (Mute - CDSPOON9)

Remastered from the original master tapes, reissued and now in CD format- this was the Koln experimentalists' (with emphasis on the 'mentalists' bit) final album with Japanese vocalist Damo Suzuki, and features the 19-minute epic "Bel Air" and plenty of fluid, cyclical percussion from Jaki Liebezeit.

Can - Landed. CD. (Mute - CDSPOON25)

CD reissue of one of the most underrated albums by this German combo, featuring 'Full Moon On The Highway' 'Hunters And Collectors' and 'Vernal Equinox'. The vocals are divided equally between Messrs Karoli, Czukay and Schmidt, and the music is moving in a smoother direction than during the Suzuki period.

CD release of the first Can album, featuring the all time 20-minute classic 'Yoo Doo Right' and the garage shrieks of 'Father Cannot Yell'. Fronted at the time by black American vocalist Malcolm Mooney, who could improvise with the best of them (and who later rejoined the band for 'Rite Time' in 1987) this was the start of a long and distinguished career (sadly terminated by guitarist Michael Karoli's untimely death in 2002) that influenced everyone from the Sex Pistols to Blur and Porcupine Tree. A timeless and classic album- remastered from the original master tapes with new sleevenotes, original artwork and photos.

Can - Radio Waves. CD. (Megaworld - ECHO 01 CD)

Interesting compilation of rare grooves from the influential German combo. The six tracks here include a 35 minute improvisation from Anne Nightingale's 1972 BBC Radio show, as well as other live performances, a 1969 studio recording and a pair of non LP single B sides from 1971. Possibly not the album to begin your Can collection with, this is nonetheless positively essential for the collector or completist of Kraut rock.

Can - Soon Over Babaluma. CD. (Mute - CDSPOON 10)

CD issue of the first post-Suzuki Can album, featuring a less aggressive but still highly rhythmic and trancey style that seems to have influenced punks, proggers and technoheads alike. 'Dizzy Dizzy' with its whispered vocal from guitarist Michael Karoli, is the best-known track, and its lyric 'don't throw ashtrays at me' gave its name to a Swell Maps song, but the standout is probably the 12-minute plus 'Chain Reaction' (no relation to the Bee Gees tune of the same name!) which features some heavy duty percussion and some decidedly odd lyrics about elephant women dominating Russia. Your guess is as good as ours.

Can - Tago Mago. CD. (Mute - CDSPOON6/7)

Third official Can album (originally released in 1970) and the second to feature the insane babblings of Damo Suzuki, a Japanese man fronting a German band singing in English but seemingly fluent only in the lexicon of the Planet Wibble. A double vinyl set at the time of release, this was the album that contained the relentless 20-minute funk of 'Halleluwah' (later copied wholesale by Happy Mondays), the equally long and actually rather frightening tape loop collage that is 'Aumgn', the screeching, gibbering 'Peking O' the sparse garage punk thud of 'Mushroom' and the Link Wray-backwards-through-a mincer clatter of 'Oh Yeah' - all of which have now been sampled to death by every fucker from Hoxton to Moss Side, but that doesn't make them any less classic. Hybrid SACD edition, remastered from original masters, featuring new sleevenotes, original artwork and photos. Will play on SACD players and compatible DVD players.

Can - Unlimited Edition. CD. (Mute - CDSPOON23/24)

Super Audio CD reissue of compilation album from 1975 that is now as highly regarded as most of the Cologne band's studio output, consisting as it does of material unavailable anywhere else (now expanded to almost 20 tracks). Highlights include 'The Empress And The Ukraine King' and the hilarious 'Mother Upduff' (both featuring Malcolm Mooney) the almost tribal 'Doko E' 'Blue Bag Inside Paper' and 'Musette' with Damo Suzuki, the trance-like, eerie 'Gomorrha' and several instrumentals that made up the 'Ethnological Forgery Series'. Will play on CD, SACD players and compatible DVD players.

Can - Flow Motion. CD. (EMI - CDSPOON26)

Part of the remastered Can series, originally released in '76 . Originally considered as just an underground, forward thinking German group, Flow Motion is their commercially successful. This is largely down to the Disco-esque drumming that appears throughout and the new found smoothness in the production. As expected, there are numerous world music references, such as the sitar led "Laugh Till I Cry" and the Morrocan influenced highlight "Smoke." The instrumental titletrack, sweeping over an epic ten minutes, reminds you of their glory days in the '60's. Widely regarded as a transitional album, it is their only real foray into the mainstream, something most Can fans are happy about.

Can - Rite Time. CD. (EMI - CDSPOON29)

1989 release from the German experimentalists, featuring the return of original sixties lead singer, Malcolm Moody. Eight track album remastered from original tapes.. After a ten year gap, this is a noticable step away from their raw Kraut rock stylings of the past, smooth production and a polished feel have taken over, the '80's managed to effect even Can albums. A much more funkier and ambient effort. A long gestation period, starting in '86, Rite Time has the traditional creative/heavily studio edited feel of old that certainly stops the album from feeling like a dodgy comeback album. The care put into this album by long term members such as Holgar Czukay makes sure this album doesn't damage their reputation at all. Good for fans of traditional Can and the uninitiated.

Can - Saw Delight. CD. (EMI - CDSPOON27)

Five track 1977 album from the German experimentalists, remastered from original tapes. Bringing in ex Traffic members Reebop Kwaku Baah and bassist Rosko Gee, Can pushed through the beginnings of punk with an Afro-Cuban jazz influenced album. The new members noticably allow Holgay Czukay to move to a more electronic, sound effects led editing for this album. Highlights include "Don't say No" featuring a fantastic joint guitar and keyboard assault and the epic "Animal Waves."

Can - Can/Out Of Reach. CD.

Great 2 -fer that contains the self titled album from 1979 and contained the following tracks: "All Gates Open" 2. "Safe" 3. "Sunday Jam" 4. "Sodom" 5. "Aspectacle" 6. "E.F.S. No. 99", "Can Can", "Ping Pong" and "Can Be". These recordings found them augmented by the former Traffic rhythm section of bassist Roscoe Gee.Also this disc has the hard to find "Out Of Reach" album from 1978 and once again they used experimental synth sounds with rock overtones, features all original seven tracks. One copy only
