A good way to check out the Cap'ns mature years that also includes a concise band history.

Captain Beefheart - Tin Teardrop. Book. (Ozit - CTTBK1) 130 page album by album analysis of the whole of Beefhearts career. Includes insight into unofficial recordings, live albums and rarities; also documents the offshoot bands such as Mallard and Juicy Groove. The book looks at Beefhearts paintings and his career and influences after his retirement from music. It really doesn't get any more completist than this! Limited to only 500 copies

Captain Beefheart - Live-London '74. CD. (EMI - CDVR 2238) Remastered live performance, that never had an official release. Made up of songs from his recent LP, Unconditionally Guaranteed and greatest hits (of the time), this is Beefheart on his brief journey towards the maintream before scurrying back under his own psychedelic blues rock!
