Space Ritual - Otherworld. CD.
(Label: ESOTERIC, Cat.No: ECLEC 2011)

Click for large image The debut studio album by former members of the classic line-ups of Hawkwind, Nik Turner, Terry Ollis, Dave Anderson, Thomas Crimble and Mick Slattery. A band formed by former founder members of Hawkwind, the group Space Ritual are true exponents of Space Rock, performing sell-out concerts drawing on "Classic" Hawkwind repertoire written by Nik Turner, Dave Anderson and Terry Ollis. Now they come alive in the 21st Century with a stunning new studio album of original material that takes the ground breaking music of these ex-Hawkwind members into a new dimension that is both contemporary but still aware of its heritage and roots. Also featuring written poems by Sci-fi author Michael Moorcock, "Otherworld" has been described as "more Hawkwind than Hawkwind" by one commentator, but SPACE RITUAL are more than that. They are a band in their own right, with their own style and future. Catch them on tour in the UK in October and on their new album, "Otherworld" now!

Lunar Dunes - From Above. CD.
(Label: Duney, Cat.No: DUNE1)

Click for large image Brilliant purely instrumental 2007 CD from the ex Treatment and songwriter guitarist. Born out of passionate listening and a shared love of Coltrane, Krautrock, Space rock, rock in general as well as the many and varied eccentricities of English Psychedelia this is a spacey trippy excursion in sound . Housed in a replica mini LP gatefold sleeve with other-worldly artwork From Above is one of the best instrumental psych/space rock albums we have heard for some time. Treatment were easily the most psychedelic UK band of the 1980s and this CD is a welcome addition to their small but perfectly formed legacy.

Suishou No Fune - Shining Star - Live. CD.
(Label: Important Records, Cat.No: IMPREC165)

Click for large image Formed in 1999 by guitarists Pirako Kurenai and Kageo, they were quickly acknowledged in Japan for their unique take on Japanese psychedelic traditions. Heavy lyrical emotion transcends linguistic barriers and Pirako's blown out fuzzy free-dream guitar work is an alternate universe psychedelic Japanese shoegaze.

Alan Davey - Human On The Outside. CD.
(Label: Voiceprint, Cat.No: HAWKVP41CD)

Click for large image 2007 release from the ex Hawkwind man and is a timely reminder of Alan’s ability as a multi-talented instrumentalist featuring not only his highly regarded bass playing (he describes his style as 'playing like a rhythm or lead guitar') but also his synth and six-string guitar work. The album also includes a vocal contribution (on ‘Glass Wolves’) by his Meads of Asphodel colleague Metatron. 'It’s eclectic' notes Davey. 'This album is way ahead of anything I’ve done before. There are deep, atmospheric, sounds and some really unusual rock numbers. It’s still clearly me but it sounds like nothing I’ve ever done before, it has a real filmic quality to it. I’m always stretching myself as a musician and trying to do something totally different, really experimenting with sounds. This one is really on the button.
