Web - Theraphosa Blondi. CD.
(Label: RDI, Cat.No: RDI 33020)

Click for large image CD version ofthis album by UK psyche prog outfit the Web.It all started back in 1967 when the musicians Lennie Wright, Kenny Beveridge, Tom Harris, Tony Edwards and John Eaton moved to London and started a band they gave a rather hopeless name: John L. Watson and The Web. Watson was an American singer who had joined the band. The year after, the band wisely changed their name to just The Web, and recorded their first album called "Fully Interlocking". This is the follow-up "Theraphosa Blondi" from1969 and has some greatly listenable moments, showing a band deep into the current of "post-pop" psyche progressive rock music.

Lynn Blessing - Sunset Painter. CD.
(Label: Fallout, Cat.No: FOCD2075)

Click for large image Shortly before he appeared on the landmark Advancement LP in 1969, vibraphone virtuoso Lynn Blessing released this, his only solo album. A superb fusion of jazz and laid-back psychedelia, it features musicians such as Sneaky Pete Kleinow (Flying Burrito Brothers) and Wolfgang Melz (the Association, Gabor Szabo) and was produced by legendary jazz flautist Paul Horn (Miles Davis, Donovan). Including a handful of mellow originals alongside unorthodox covers of songs by the Beatles, the Byrds, the Who, Bob Dylan and Judee Sill, it’s a laid-back delight from start to finish. As Blessing says at the outset: Sit back, relax, and take off.

Kokomo - Kokomo / Rise And Shine. CD.
(Label: B.G.O. Records, Cat.No: BGOCD777)

Click for large image Formed from the ashes of Arrival and Joe Cocker’s Grease Band, Kokomo were a fantastic live act and one of the more authentic UK funk bands of the 1970's, who drew great reviews on the seminal 1975 Naughty Rhythms tour with Dr. Feelgood. Collected here are their first two albums on one disc. Often compared to the Average White Band (Kokomo were infinitely better), their stunning debut includes an extended version of Bobby Womack's "I Can Understand It" plus eight other songs. Rise and Shine! stands as the finest British funk album of the 1970s, it is the sound of a band successfully capturing their live attack in the studio something not found on any of their contemporaries releases of the mid 70's.

Allen Toussaint - What Is Success - The Scepter And Bell Recordings. CD.

First out in 1970, this was largely overlooked but is now considered to be a masterpiece of the time; it is a showcase for both Toussaint’s widely admired piano playing and his unique bluesy voice. Sixteen tracks in total, including: "Working In The Coalmine", "From A Whisper To A Scream", "The Chokin' Kind" and "Number Nine."

Miles Davis - Steamin' [Rudy Van Gelder Edition]. CD.
(Label: Universal, Cat.No: 7230167)

Click for large image Of Miles Davis's many bands, none was more influential and popular than the quintet with John Coltrane, Red Garland, Paul Chambers, and Philly Joe Jones. Davis's muted ballads and medium-tempo standards endeared him to the public. The horns' searing exposition of classics like "Salt Peanuts" and "Well, You Needn't" captivated musicians. The searching, restless improvisations of Coltrane intrigued listeners who had a taste for adventure. The flawless rhythm section became a model for bands everywhere. Steamin' from 1956 is a significant portion of the music of this remarkable group.
