Excellent second solo album by country Joe recorded with a top notch backing band in 1970 at the same time as his tribute to Woody Guthrie release. If you love that steel guitar sound, classic country songs and some superb country musicianship then check this out. 180 gram vinyl in original hard card. On Akarma.
If you ever wondered where the "Country" in CJ & The Fish came from... here's the answer. This 1969 solo album from the 'Fish main-man, contains a selection of tracks written by cult US folkie, Woody Guthrie (yes Arlo's Dad)... Includes renditions of "This Land Is Your Land", "Pastures Of Plenty", "Roll On Columbia", "Pretty Boy Floyd" and loads more. Whoa-dad! Yeah!
Over 72 minutes of this San Franciscan legend finest moments from 1971 - 1994. Includes solo performances of 'Fish classics such as "Here I Go Again" and "Who Am I?", the best of his later work - such as the protest "War Hero" and the previously unreleased "Thinking Of John Fahey".
A beautiful LP sized box set from Akarma featuring four classic Country Joe albums recorded during and after his work with The Fish. Not only do you get "War War War" "Hold On It's Coming", "Tonight I'm Singing Just for You" and the excellent "Paris Sessions" (featuring members of The United States Of America and The Pretty Things!) but you also get a thick booklet with posters, photos and the history of Country Joe and the Fish. The CD albums are housed in miniature gatefold sleeves and the box is a full colour work of art!
Post 'Fish retrospective, with a folky / country / protest feel. One track, "Fantasy" includes The Pretty Things, whilst Peter Green and Spencer Davis also make guest appearances.
Great 1972 solo album, recorded live at a small club in NYC. Intimate and acoustic, Country Joe performs versions of "Tricky Dicky" and "Fly So High" from the 'Fish back-catalogue as well as tackling environmental issues ("Living In The Future In A Plastic Dome"- the Millenium Dome ?), Vietnam ("Kiss My Ass") and Left-Wing Politics ("Deep Down In Our Hearts"). The club atmosphere may be relaxed, but this only helps Joe's spellbinding performance. A good intro' to the world of Country Joe!
Soundtrack album from a Danish 1969 film featuring 5 exclusive Country Joe tracks and 3 by the great Danish acid rock/psych band Young Flowers.... Also includes material by Andy Sundstöm, Papa Bue's Viking Jazz Band and Ben Webster.
Wonderful double CD set in a limited edition of 1000 copies that captures a solo Country Joe running through the best moments of his 40 year career. His voice is unspoilt and this album has the same feel as the Incredible! Live! Album in that it is performed in front of an intimate audience and Joe is on top form and in great humour. The set features numerous classics, many from the CJ and the Fish era, including "Rock Coast Blues" "Section 43" "Here I go Again" "Not So Sweet Martha Lorraine" and others. Pretty much an essential purchase for fans of this man's music!
