Damon Albarn - Mali Music. CD. (Honest Jons - 5384402) Blur frontmans collaboration with Mali musicians from 2002. Rather than collaborating with them, Damon recorded much of the traditional source material in Mali (on a trip for Oxfam) before returning to a professional recording studio to add layers of acoustic and digital instruments. The result is, like all of Albarns collaborations, absolutely thrilling. An album that resepcts the musical heritage and builds upon it rather than updating or sampling it. A wonderfully chilled sixteen track collection, featuring Afel Bocoum, Lobi Traore, Toumani Diabate and Ko Kan Ko Sata Doumbia. Tracks include: "Ko Kan Ko Sata Doumbia On River", "The Djembe" and "Kela Village."
