Dave Hamilton - Detroit City Grooves (featuring 'Soul Suite'). CD. (BGP - CDBGPD 169)

A bit of a rarity this- not quite a lost album, but the tracks that would have made one up had it ever been completed. In 1968, after releasing a superb single ('Pisces Place/Cracklin' Bread') on his own TCB label, noted Detroit funk and soul producer Hamilton began work on an album of his own, consisting largely of instrumental versions of the tunes he had produced for artists like Little Anne and Chico & Buddy. For some unknown reason the album remained unfinished and unreleased- until now, where the tracks that would have been included join other funky Hamilton classics of the period. Garage punk may have been one sound of Detroit: hot soul, funk, R'n'B and of course Motown is the other, and this album is one of the most interesting aspects of it. One can almost smell the asphalt and the huge wrecking yards the moment the first notes are struck.
