Great compilation of the finest moments of this US '60s orchestrator/arranger who worked with The Electric Prunes (included on this set) and made some highly collectable late '60s albums. Superb epic instrumentals mixing fuzz guitars with melodic orchestral textures and vocal harmonies. Interestingly Mr. Axelrod was a druggie for ten years before the '60s made such a thing fashionable, so this music is quite out there!. Double LP version includes extra track.1 copy left of this now deleted classic comp.

David Axelrod - The Edge - David Axelrod At Capitol Records 1966-1970. Dble LP. (Capitol Records - 311 6171)

Double LP by one of Capitol Records' foremost producers during the company's glory years in the 1960s. Under his production, actor David McCallum released four albums; soulster Lou Rawls released a countless number of LPs; Cannonball Adderley released "Mercy, Mercy, Mercy", one of the highest selling jazz albums of all time; and countless artists from Letta Mbulu to Common People released albums that spanned the gamut from funky African folk to psychedelic rock. Axelrod himself released three albums as a solo artist, the first of which even legendary producer Quincy Jones admitted was the immediate precursor to jazz-fusion. This collection includes solo tracks + cuts by David McCallum, Letta Mbulu, Lou Rawls, Don Randi and Cannonball Adderley.

Odd third album by Mr. Axelrod. A concept piece about the human rape of the earth's environment. Mixing his earlier style with flutes, orchestra's, brass, and choir's in an easy listening style... why not chill out in your polyester '60s leisuresuit and contemplate the destruction of the environment. A weird one.

Exact reissue of Mr. Axelrod's 1972 electric orchestral epic loosley based on Handel's Messiah. A logical extension of Mass in F minor but on a far grander scale with choirs, an electric band and a wealth of orchestration.

This strange 1993 Axelrod album displays a strong social conscience as well as an insistent creative imagination durring 4 lengthy tracks have a forceful and direct sound. An amazing body of work that combines modern classical, jazz and performance art to harsh effect.

Very limited pressing of this very scarce Axelrod album from 1972 that was his musical interpretation of Paul Dunbar's Slave poetry. [Dunbar was the first African-American to gain national eminence as a poet in the late 19th century]. Produced by David Axelrod and Cannonball Adderley this album is a great example of the soundscapes Axelrod could come up with.This exact repro features the lavish gatefold that was originally found on the on Decca Records release.
