David Bowie - I Dig Everything:1966 Pye Singles. LP.

Three singles David Bowie cut for Pye in 1966, with Tony Hatch. "Can't Help Thinking About Me" left the R&B formula of Bowie's earlier singles behind, serving up instead a delicious slice of classic mod-pop (reminiscent of the Kinks) and getting Bowie an invitation to appear on the influential Ready Steady Go!. "Can't Help Thinking About Me" also tells the tale of a young boy who is forced to leave town - perhaps the first hint of homosexuality in Bowie's lyrics. Also included is the first single by David Bowie instead of Jones. "I Dig Everything" Gatefold sleeve 180 gram vinyl and housed in a PVC sleeve.

David Bowie - Man Who Sold The World. CD. (EMI - 5218960)

This 1970 album shows the development of Bowie's more rock influenced song writing. With the incisive guitar riffs from Mick Ronson and the introduction of a moog, the sound had more edge. Title track has always been one of his most finest but lets not forget the others here 'Width Of A Circle', 'All The Madmen', 'Black Country Rock', 'After All', 'Running Man Blues', 'Saviour Man', 'She Shook Me Cold' and 'The Supermen'.

David Bowie - Pin Ups. CD. (EMI - 5219030)

Bowie's interpretations of his favorite 60's songs all done in the best possible taste of course. Bowie and the Spiders make songs by the Pretty Things ("Rosalyn," "Don't Bring Me Down"), the Merseys ("Sorrow"), and the Easybeats ("Friday On My Mind") tough and nervy, occasionally surpassing the original versions in terms of attitude. This is a classic 70's angst ridden speed ride.

Staggering return to form from Bowie on this album from 1980 that gave him huge single success with "Scary Monsters" & "Ashes to Ashes" and an album that broke new barriers in his style. Heavy guitar passages from Robert Fripp & Pete Townshend make this album stand out in quite a unique way. Also re-kindled Bowie's relationship with Tony Visconti.

Yet another new ID for Bowie as he invented The Thin White Duke on this 1975 classic which contained mega - hit "Fame" as well as a version of the Beatles "Across The Universe." This time he incorporates Philly Soul and Disco as his new musical persona, a wonderful stylistic journey with many highlights. John Lennon actually appeared on the album too.

David Bowie - Aladdin Sane. CD. (EMI - 5219020)

Classic album, first released in 1973, one year after the blazing success of Ziggy Stardust, this was a more experimental album using Bowie's infamous 'cut-up' technique of lyric writing and making full use of the talented musicians at his disposal (Mike Garson's piano solo on the title track is awe inspiring). Tracks include "The Jean Genie", "Drive-In Saturday" and a full-on glam cover version of the Stones' "Let's Spend The Night Together".

David Bowie - Hunky Dory. CD. (EMI - 5218990)

In 1972, David Bowie achieved massive success with the Ziggy Stardust album - in 1971, he released this album amidst a wave of unjust indifference. Regarded by many as his best album, "Hunky Dory" included some famous songs "Changes", "Life On Mars?" and some wonderful obscurities "Song For Bob Dylan" and "Kooks" for his new born son Zowie. The band are basically the Spiders From Mars (Mick Ronson, Trevor Bolder, Woody Woodmansey) plus guests including Rick Wakeman.

David Bowie - Low. CD. (EMI - 5219070)

Classic synth art rock album from 1977. A very cold, experimental album, half instrumental and only wandering towards the commercial with "Sound & Vision." Recorded with Brian Eno in Berlin, his ambient electronic influence is evident throughout. The effort Bowie goes to to remove any warm elemetns to the sound, layering his vocals, the angular guitars and the dissonant chords is impressive. His vast metmorphosis from Ziggy Stradust to this occurred in only five ears. A highly successful but demanding avant garde record. Includes: "Art Decade", "Steel Glass" and "Be My Wife."

David Bowie - Heroes. CD. (EMI - 5219080)

Following on from the brilliant Low, this is the second album in the Berlin Trilogy. Like its predecessor the second half of the album is Bowies attempt to create the music of the future, brooding electronic instrumentals made with the assisstance of Brian Eno and producer Tony Visconti. Lyrically he talks of lovers surviving under gun poin, panic and his struggle against his drug addiction. At times highly peaceful and at others emotive to the extreme, this is a great album of two halfs. Includes: the amazing title track, "Secret Life Of Arabia", "Sense Of Doubt" and "Beauty And The Beast."

Eighteen track compilation from his late '70's period when he moved on from his Ziggy faze and began his experimentations in avant garde and electronica. This is really his chameleonic period, a highly inventive time for the thin white duke which sees him jumping from style to style with equal grace and poise. Includes: "Sound And Vision", "Breaking Glass", "John, I'm Only Dancing (Again)" and "The Secret Life Of Arabia."

David Bowie - Black Tie White Noise. CD. (EMI - 5833382)

Bowie's first solo album after his Tin Machine project, released in 1993. Featuring the return of Mick Ronson, a guest solo by avant jazz trumpeter Lester Bowie and Lets Dance producer Nile Rodgers, this is a typically ambitious effort from the thin white one. Finding his muse again and moving away from the commercial sound of recent albums boosts the credibility of this underrated album. A mixture of Low era instrumentals and a new mature dance rock approach (as well as quite a few random covers) make this a great listen. Includes: "The Wedding Song", "You've Been Around" and "You've Been Around."

David Bowie - Lets Dance. CD. (EMI - 5218960)

1983 album that emerged after Bowies three year break. David Bowie - Lodger. CD. (EMI - 5219090)

The final album in the Berlin trilogy, released in 1979. Probably the least talked about of the set, this is a cracking transistional piece from Bowie, full of taught rocky numbers and rough dissonant textures. This is the only one of the trilogy that includes clear pop like songs (although still of the avant garde type), melody and an immediacy not present on Low and Heroes. Includes: "Look Back In Anger", "Yassassin (Turkish For: Long Live)" and "Repetition."

David Bowie - Space Oddity. CD. (EMI - 5218980)

Hot off the success of "Space Oddity", Bowie released his second album in 1969 (originally titled Man of Words/Man of Music.) This is preGlam Bowie, here he is enjoying being a surrealist psychedelic folk singer songwriter. Considering his future abilities to distance himself emotionally from his recordings, it is great to here him on tracks like "Cygnet Committee" and "Letter to Hermione" sounding so bitter and empassioned. Ziggy and a major career reinvention (the second of many) was right around the corner…

David Bowie - Diamond Dogs. CD. (EMI - 5219040)

Loose Orwellian concept album from the thin white duke. In many ways a perfect combination, both artists dabbled with creating a strong sense of alienation and isolation in a nightmare future. At the time it was seen as Bowie overstretching his ideas having recently fired the Spiders from Mars and effectively going it alone. (plus the album is barely a concept album, it quickly returns to straightforward songs after using up all possible 1984 connotations) In retrospect there are many audio pleasures to be found, namely the genius that is "Rebel Rebel", "1984", the title track and "Sweet Thing."

David Bowie - Platinum Collection. 3-CD. (EMI Catalouge - 3313042)

David Bowie remains impossible to pigeonhole - first there was Ziggy Stardust, Aladdin Sane, a White Soul Boy and a Thin White Duke. He went on to invent synth-pop with Tony Visconti and Brian Eno and then disappeared behind the make-up of Pierrot when the New Romantics mixed all of his eras together. This compilation released in 2005 , takes some of the better tracks from these periods through 57 tracks on three CD's. Station To Station is an album that many bowie fans will tell you to leave well alone if you are new to Bowie. However here at the Freak Emporium where we thrive on the unusual, this is probably one of our favorite Bowie albums. Many of the tracks on this 1976 album have a real soul feel to them without really touching on the true musical style of the genre. Tracks on this album include.: "Station To Station", "Golden Years", "Word On A Wing", "TVC 15", "Stay," and "Wild Is The Wind".

However this is an exception and it stands up as one of his most brilliant live albums. 20 tracks are performed in total, including: "Wild Eyed Boy From Freecloud", "Let's Spend The Night Together" and "Hang On To Yourself". Highly Recommended.

Special slipcased edition of the 1975 album. Yet another new ID for Bowie as he invented The Thin White Duke on this classic which contained mega - hit "Fame" as well as a version of the Beatles "Across The Universe." This time he incorporates Philly Soul and Disco as his new musical persona, a wonderful stylistic journey with many highlights. The CD features three bonus tracks, one of which is unreleased. The DVD features a brand new 5.1 mix of the album by legendary producer Tony Visconti along with 2 performances and an interview from The Dick Cavett TV show.
