These were Donovan's 3rd and 4th albums for CBS (1974/1976) following on from Cosmic Wheel and Essence To Essence. Both now appear on CD for the first time. Top class musicianship comes courtesy of the cream of Nashville's session players and there are some excellent songs - particularly on 7-Tease - such as "Ride-a-Mile" and "Sadness" which could have easily fitted on to HMS Donovan. Nice packaging and full annotation accompanies albums brimming with Don's melodic skills and musical eclecticism.

The first album is full of psychedelic tinged pop with tracks such as "Wear Your Love Like Heaven" and "Under The Greenwood Tree" while the second is filled with haunting, childlike psychedelic folk that sends shivers down your spine. Remastered in stereo and as essential as Sergeant Pepper ! However, would you believe that (according to the sleevenotes anyway, penned at the time) he had abandoned all drugs during this period and was encouraging the world's youth to follow his example? No, we wouldn't believe it either.

Donovan made a real return to form with this 1971 album that originally came out as a double LP but sold very little at the time (hence it's rarity) Beautiful songs from childhood with a distinctly eccentric and mystical Victorian/Alice In Wonderland feel. The reading of Lewis Carroll's "The Walrus and the Carpenter" is very weird, whilst tracks such as "The Reedy River" are dreamy and magical invocations. This album inspired Kate Bush and you can hear the influence.

Released only in the USA as it was deemed to "druggy" for the UK market, it was produced by Mickie Most with exquisite arrangements by John Cameron, except of course on "Mellow Yellow" which John Paul Jones handled. For Donovan's 1970 album, put together a three-piece band called "Open Road" and came up with this mature and confident album. A favourite of many Donovan fans, it includes the boppy little "Riki Tiki Tavi" and the self-explanatory "Celtic Rock", and many other numbers that have less of a fairy-tale and more of a rock feel about them. The UK issue of this landmark album oddly paired half of the US release with half of the Mellow Yellow album and featured totally different artwork. However it's still a strong album dominated by tracks that mixed Donovan's earlier folk style with acid rock psychedelia. The blend works perfectly on the title track but there are some other gems present here such as the haunting "Celeste", the sitar laden "Three Kingfishers" and of course the dark "Season Of the Witch" . One of the essential 1967 releases (although the US version was issued in 1966 making it one of the earliest psychedelic records! )LAST COPY OF THIS NOW DELETED B.B.O. title.
Donovan's 1968 album saw him moving in a more rock based whilst retaining the trippy, mystical folky pop/psych of the previous releases (Sunshine Superman, Mellow Yellow and Gift From A Flower To Garden). The album was the final chapter of his psychedelic phase and the title track (originally written for his friend Mac Macleod's band Hurdy Gurdy see elsewhere) is suitably cosmic in an almost Hendrix like acid rock style. The album also features the wonderful hit "Jennifer Juniper" the mystic "Tangier" and the laid back hipness of "Get Thy Bearings" Overall a minor masterpiece and to celebrate Donovan's 40th year in music this album has been digitally remastered and contains 6 additional bonus tracks, including many which are previously unreleased.
