2fer featuring the mid-70s albums of one of the true innovators of bluegrass (and thus a major influence on everything that became country and rock'n'roll) who formerly led the Foggy Mountain Boys (inventors of the Clampetts and composers of the 'Beverly Hillbillies' theme) with Lester Flatt. Coaxed out of early retirement by CBS after nearly everyone cited him as an influence, the label seemingly managed to squeeze every one of those people plus more into one studio- Roger McGuinn, Billy Joel, Johnny Cash, Leonard Cohen, Joan Baez, Dan Fogelberg, Ramblin' Jack Elliott, Loggins and Messina, Rusty Young of Poco, Jim Keltner, Doug Kershaw, Loudon Wainwright, Michael Murphy, Alvin Lee, Charlie Daniels, Willie Hall, Tracy Nelson, the Pointer Sisters, Bonnie Bramlett, Skip Battin of the Burritos, Buffy Sainte Marie- AND MORE. Phew!! With that kind of lineup, do we really need to go further? Just buy it!!
Scruggs formed the Earl Scruggs Revue with his two sons. The Revue appealed more to a young and urban audience and, with dobro player Josh Graves, played rock and other non-country music with guest's such as Roger McGuinn, Johnny Cash, Alvin Lee, and Clarence White who are all featured on this CD.
