Emerson Lake & Palmer - Works Vol. 2. CD. (Sanctuary Midline - SMRCD081)

The Top 10 success of the first "Works" volume prompted ELP to assemble this follow up, mixing Emerson and Lake's earlier solo singles with several out-takes from the sessions for "Brain Salad Surgery" - including the piece originally intended as the title track for that album.

The live album from ELP's 1977 tour of North America was retitled and extended on two CDs in the early 90s, to celebrate the band's recent reunion. Emerson Lake & Palmer - Trilogy. LP. (Earmark - 42057)

After threatening audiences with their hard progressive blend of musical talent, advanced ideas, complicated song structures and deconstructionist theories applied to classical music, it was time for ELP to relax a little with 1972’s Trilogy, a more commercially oriented and easy-to-listen-to work which soon became a much deserved mass success. With tracks like the pop-suite "Endless Enigma", the playful 'Sheriff' and Greg Lake’s beautiful ballad "From The Beginning" we witness the changes in the direction of this trio, losing a little of its rough energy and early aggression (seriously!) for more carefully polished yet intriguing inventions. Yet for utter self-indulgence there's still their version of Aaron Copeland's "Hoedown"- possibly their second best known tune after 'Fanfare. . .'- and the album closer 'Abaddon's Bolero' which still polarises fans to this day. A classic! 180 gram virgin vinyl, PVC dustsleeve

Emerson Lake & Palmer - Trilogy. CD. (Sanctuary Midline - SMRCD058)

Their fourth effort from 1972 and an album where Keith Emerson revealed how much mileage one man and his imagination could draw from a Moog synth. The band's symphonic approach to composing was also never so obvious, while the record also introduced the world to Lake's "From The Beginning", greeted by ELP fans as an instant classic.

Emerson Lake & Palmer - The Original Manticore Bootleg Series From The Vaults: Volum. 5-CD Box Set. (Castle - CMYBX524)

The archive expedition continues, as ELP unearth another batch of priceless live recordings which have never been released before. Four of the five CDs on this fans' delight herald from the band's 1990s comeback, taped in London and Los Angeles. Another dates from their commercial peak in the mid-70s - and the origins of the last still remain a mystery. What is certain is that these unvarnished recordings (of three concerts over five CDs) capture prog-rock history in the making, by the maestros of the art.

Emerson Lake & Palmer - Tarkus. LP. (Earmark - 42055)

180 gram gatefold sleeve version of 1971’s Tarkus , the second album by the undisputed first "supergroup" in music history. Articulated in a powerful 20 minute suite on side one and a less volcanic but still focused and musically intense side two, the album presents the trio performing its best progressive rock, still rough and not too polished. Tunes like the title track - which undoubtedly competes with Yes’s "Close To The Edge"to make make this milestone of prog rock a must have for everyone who claims fluency in 20th century’s pop music.

ELP's dramatic interpretation of Mussorgky's orchestral suite had been the focus point of their stage shows since their first concert. Emerson Lake & Palmer - Love Beach. CD. (Sanctuary Midline - SMRCD079)

Two entirely different conceptions of ELP were married on this 1978 studio album. Side One was devoted to pop songs by Greg Lake and Pete Sinfield (including the ultra-cheesy 'Taste Of My Love') and Side Two to a Keith Emerson epic, "Memoirs Of An Officer And A Gentleman", which inspired one of Lake's finest vocal performances. But as for Side One? Check out the lyrics:"Call for room service, order peaches and cream- I like my dessert first, if you know what I mean!!" Oh dear oh dear oh dear. . . Worth buying for the sleeve ( ! ), the aforementioned 'Memoirs. . .' and the excellently widdly 'Canario'.

Emerson Lake & Palmer - Fanfare For The Common Man- The Anthology. Dble CD. (Castle - CMEDD110)

One of the most phenomenally successful acts of the early to mid 1970s, ELP came out of the 'Progressive Rock' boom to conquer all before them. Featuring the virtuoso keyboard skills of Keith Emerson, the soaring vocals of Greg Lake and the powerhouse drumming of Carl Palmer, the band became one of the first 'Arena Rock' bands, marrying neo-Classical Hammond Organ motifs to loud rock and roll and dazzling special effects. Emerson Lake & Palmer - Emerson Lake & Palmer/Pictures At An Exhibition/Tarkus. 3-CD. (Sanctuary Records - CMETD1034)

Triple CD issue of the first three albums by this most genre-definingly prog of all prog bands. First album shows embryonic developments of band's flamboyant style, characaterised by a mixture of neo-classical bombast ('The Barbarian') and lyrical balladry ('Lucky Man' 'Take A Pebble'). The same is true for 'Tarkus', the 26-minute title track of whgich is still regarded as one of the band's definitive moments, and also of most of 'Pictures At An Exhibition' (complete with suitably daft encore number 'Nutrocker') recorded in front of probably the most riotous audience ever heard on an album. And they said prog was dull!! Not here it isn't!!

Emerson Lake & Palmer - In The Hot Seat. CD. (Sanctuary Midline - SMRCD342)

The final studio album to date (at time of writing, and it looks highly unlikely that the three will ever perform together again) from prog rock's ultimate supergroup. Originally released in 1994 on the Polygram label, the album displays a more contemporary/ AOR feel than any of their previous works (although to be honest, every album from 'Love Beach' onwards was heading in that direction) and features shorter, more radio-friendly songs than the band had previously been known for. However, for those of you unable to cope with the idea of ELP shorn of their widdlings, this edition features an interesting bonus track- the only ever STUDIO recording of material from 'Pictures At An Exhibition'!! Disc 2 was taken from their last tour to date, in 1997/8, and features the three of them with renewed vigour (not to mention enormous trucks) and is a greatest hits package ranging from 'Hoedown' and 'Bitches Crystal' through 'Tiger In A Spotlight' and 'Touch And Go' to a medley of material from the 'previous bands' that includes 'America' and '21st Century Schizoid Man'. Classic Giger artwork in place (has he been paid for the first one yet?) and sleevenotes by the indefatigable Jerry Ewing. Emerson Lake & Palmer - Live At The Roayl Albert Hall. DVD. (Sanctuary Records - SVEM0351)

The Royal Albert Hall was certainly a fitting venue for the trio to make their long-awaited comeback. The venerable hall has long been the home of great and glorious music and that was ELP’s speciality. In 1991, after many years absence, ELP reformed with its original line-up and the following year released a brand new album. This yielded some fine additions to the bands repertoire including the title track and ‘Paper Blood’, both of which were performed during their concerts at the Royal Albert Hall in October 1992. However, most die-hard fans were eager to hear the band tearing into their classic performances…..they were not disappointed.
