Garham Coxon - Happiness In Magazines. LP. (Transcopic - 5775191) The former Blur guitarist's 2004 album is quite perverse, considering that he dogmatically pushed the lo fi sound for his former group and his early solo records. Reuniting with producer Stephen Street, Coxon made his first power pop album, re-embracing Blurs old ways that he so distanced himself from. His punk influences come to the fore here, stripping the arrangements and polished productions down to a bare minimum and just getting the hell on with it. The effect is a startling refinement of his solo output and the one where the public started to take notice of him as a serious talent in his own right.
