Gilberto Gil - Soy Loco Por Ti America. CD. (Snapper - SNAP112CD)

One of the influential figures of the '60's and 70's Brazillian music scene and one of the founders of the Tropicalia movement Gilberto Gil is a legend. This 1987 album mixes marimba's, keyboards, sax, fuzzy electric guitars over contemporary funk and reggae rhythms to create some of his finest songs. A highly funky album with some fine mindblowing moments.

Gilberto Gil - Louvacao. CD. (Universal - UICY-1028)

A very rare 1967 album by Gil! A cool mix of post-bossa tracks, orchestral recordings and tracks that point towards the Tropicalia recordings that Gil would make the next year. The record features Gil's original version of "Roda", which was later covered by many artists, and is brilliantly performed here by Gil. Other gems include include "Lovacao", "Maria", "Ensaio Geral", "Lunik 9", and "Procissao". Features 2 great bonus cuts -- a version of Tom Ze's "A Moreninha", and Gil's own bossa gem "Minha Senhora".

Gilberto Gil - 1972. CD. (Polygram - 848939-2)

It's back home to Brazil for this album which moves further into the realms of combining traditional samba rhythms, native music and experimental acoustic folk, rock pop and jazz music. Decidedly different and hugely sampled by many DJ's.

Gilberto Gil - 1969. CD. (Polygram - 518122-2)

Perhaps the best Brazilian/Tropicalia psych album outside of Mutantes and obviously influenced Becks 'Mutations' album. Sung in his native language, Gil created a band with a firm grasp of influences both traditional and contemporary. Imagine if you can Hendrix jamming with Herb Alpert - and the whole thing produced by Todd Rundgren. Very odd and highly entertaining.... Remastered with extra tracks.....
