Live CD recorded for Radio Clyde at Glasgow Apollo, 6th November 1982 on the band's 'Magic' tour. Features 'Born To Kill' (you know, the one that goes "You take a piece of work, you join it to another piece of work. . . Etc) 'Trouble' 'M.A.D.' 'No Laughing In Heaven' together with the inevitable 'Black Night' and 'Smoke On The Water' - plus the added bonus of 'No Easy Way' and 'If You Believe Me' from Munich a year earlier. Everyone loves Gillan in Purple, but many miss the special chemistry and zany humour this band had. Here's a chance to relive it. Lineup is Gillan (well,, duh!), Janick Gers, Colin Towns, John McCoy, Mick Underwood. Never before released on CD: mastered by McCoy with sleevenotes by Jerry Bloom.
Over 2 hours (at last!!) of Gillan on DVD- eight live tracks including 'Sleeping On The Job' 'Mutually Assured Destruction' 'Trouble' 'Smoke On The Water' etc, plus a new track from ex-Gillan members John McCoy and Bernie Torme recorded with former Rachel Stamp/Anti Product drummer Robin Guy!! Other bonus features include interviews with all bandmembers apart from, sadly, Gillan himself- and a history of the band by Joe Geesin. Performed and filmed at the time for Scots TV, the atmosphere is electric and should not be missed.
1981 album from the ex Deep Purple vocalist and his cohorts. With the help of star guitarist Bernie Torme, fearsome bassist John McCoy (later of Mammoth), scholarly keyboardist Colin Towns (writer of a million TV themes) and ex-Quatermass drummer Mick Underwood, our Ian lets forth a set of excellent rock songs that showcase his expressive and adaptable vocal style, and although not part of the movement, defined the approach of the NWOBHM. This was the abum that spawned the hit singles 'New Orleans' and 'No Laughing In Heaven' (sample lyrics: " Drinkin', smokin' and messin' around with women!! Lots of women!! No, not swimming, WOMEN!! W-O-M-EN!!") as well as oddities such as 'If I Sing Softly' 'For Your Dreams' 'Night Ride Out Of Phoenix' and 'Sacre Bleu' which all stretched the basic hard rock format to its outer limits- sometimes daft, but always interesting. This jewel case reissue includes seven bonus tracks, including a live version of Purple favourite "Smoke On The Water."
Released in November 1981 as a double LP, this is the expanded double CD version. Disc one is made up of eight studio tracks and introduced new guitarist Janick Gers (Iron Maiden) to the group. The bonus track "Spanish Guitar" was previously only available on a flexidisc given away with a pop magazine. The second disc features highlights from their Reading Festival Appearance in 1981 which is effectively a greatest hits. The second disc bonus tracks come from the same live performance and from the previous years festival: "Bite The Bullet", "On The Rocks", "Mr. Universe", "Vengeance" and "Smoke On The Water." These tracks were originally issued as b-sides the singles of that period.
Ten track live album recorded in Japan 1977. This is where the former Deep Purple vocalist really shone, on stage at the famous Budokan venue. The set is made up of Purple classics and the best of the early Ian Gillan Band albums. One of the best post Purple Gillan albums. Featuring: "Smoke On The Water", "My Baby Loves Me" and "Twin Exhausted."
'Magic' was the last album by Gillan and featured Ian Gillan himself, Janick Gers(guitar), John McCoy (bass), Colin Towns (keyboards), and Mick Underwood (drums). After a tour to promote the album, Ian Gillan broke up the band in order to join Black Sabbath for a year, before joining the reformed Mark 2 line-up of Deep Purple in 1984. Released in October 1982, it reached # 17 in the UK album chart and features the hit singles "Long Gone" and "Living For The City" (a cover of the StevieWonder classic). The eight bonus tracks feature the non-album single b-sides as well as two album outtakes: amazing versions of The Beatles' "Helter Skelter" and Howlin' Wolf's "Smokestack Lightning". Also included are the a- and b-side of the solo single "SouthAfrica" from 1988, along with an extended 12" version.
1980 album by the Rock group. A high water mark commercially for the group, the intial 15000 pressings of Glory Road originally featured a bonus ten track album entitled: "For Gillan Fans Only." This double CD release is the first to feature the bonus LP in it's entirety as well as two b-sides from the "Sleeping On The Job" and "No Easy Way" singles.
The first album by the group formerly known as the Ian Gillan Band, now known solely as Gillan. This 1979 release features the classic line up of Gillan, Torme, McCoy, Towns and Underwood and includes tracks that have become live staples for many years to come. The ten track original features the bands eight and a half minute version of "Smoke On The Water", a track that originally appeared as a b-side to "Vengence" and one that makes it's CD debut.
