Fabulously recorded live in 1968 at the Shrine Auditorium in LA - using Warner Brother's Big Band recording unit - this contains stellar versions of "The Other One", "Dark Star", "St. Stephen" etc and ends with a wonderful "Morning Dew"... The First Album, Anthem Of the Sun, Live Dead, Workingman's Dead, American Beauty, Grateful Dead, Europe '72, and Bear's Choice have been stunningly remastered and expanded with new sleeve notes, live tracks, outtakes and previously unreleased studio recordings. The real gem here however is the double CD "Birth Of the Grateful Dead" which includes - for the first time officially - the Warlocks demos, the Scorpio single (and sessions) as well as loads of early live performances. Finished off with a massive full colour 80 page booklet this is truly a fantastic package. If only Jerry were alive...
