Harold Budd - Luxa. CD. (Rykodisc - HNCD1487)

1996 album from popular minimalist composer, the first he had released since the acclaimed 'By The Dawn's Early Light' some five years previously. Tracks are homages to, or inspirations from, his favourite composers (Poliakoff, Agnes Martin, Chet Baker) : indeed, some are even composed by jazzmen such as Marion and Steve Brown. Warm music to lose oneself in.

Harold Budd - Pavillion Of Dreams. CD. (Virgin Records - CDOVD482)

1978 debut from the avant garde electronic wizard. This album introduced the world to his early, more acoustic abilities, creating ambient sounds (it was produced by Brian Eno), contemporary clasical pieces and jazz ballads. Embracing a chamber orchestra and numerous jazz influences puts Budd's early work in a field of its own. Track listing: "Bismillahi 'Rrahmani 'Rrahim", "Let Us Go Into The House Of The Lord/Butterfly Sunday", "Rosetti Noise/Chrystal Garden And A Coda" and "Juno."

Harold Budd - Lovely Thunder. CD. (Virgin Records - EEGCD46)

A masterpiece of slow, melancholic sounds that resonate within the soul. Appropriately titled, Budd mixes calming ambience with a feeling of foreboding that stops the listener from sitting completely comfortably. A wonderfully challenging album, reminiscent of his work he did with Eno. Includes :"Gypsy Violin", "Olancha Farewell" and "Gunfighter ."

Harold Budd - La Bella Vista. CD. (High Coin - SABRECD2005)

Minimalist composer Harold Budd is perhaps best known for his collaborations over time with Brian Eno, Robin Guthrie of the Cocteau Twins, and Andy Partridge of XTC. Harold Budd is unique as an avant-garde pianist and composer who has earned critical respect and commercial success. Budd’s latest work, La Bella Vista, was produced by Grammy-winning producer Daniel Lanois. (It is his first production since U2’s All That You Can’t Leave Behind.) Lanois and Samuels recorded the album at impromptu gatherings of friends at Lanois’s house. At the first of these session, the artist was completely unaware that tape was rolling, affording an entirely spontaneous and "of the moment" document. According Budd, the vintage Steinway on which he extemporized was "one of the most gorgeous pianos I have ever played. I played for fifteen people, most of whom I had met that night for the first time," he recalls of the initial session at the house, a 1920’s Italianate villa that lends its name to the album.
