Harvey Mandel - Shangrenade/Feel The Sound. CD. (Akarma - AK 166)

Two later albums from 1973/74 by the ex-Canned Heat guitarist, both of which launch into instrumental freakery and jazzy, funky fusion filled with complex trippy guitar work. Laid back but at the same time deviously energetic this double pack is a treat for any guitar fan.

Harvey Mandel - Feel The Sound Of Harvey. CD. (Repertoire Records - RR 4715)

1974 release from the Canned Heat guitarist. Blues licks are never too far away and there's more of a reliance on guest vocalists. Mandel's style always seems laidback, even when jamming out in an extended work-out and this is a fine example of his blues rock style.

Harvey Mandel - Righteous/Games Guitars Play. CD. (B.G.O. Records - BGOCD667)

First ever CD issue of these two late 60's albums- collected together on one digitally remastered and slipcased disc - from a true guitar virtuoso best known for his time spent with John Mayall's Bluesbreakers and with Canned Heat- as well as nearly joining the Stones in 1976 (he didn't, of course, but did play on the sessions for Black and Blue) . Laid back blues rock with a slight West Coast twang.

Harvey Mandel - Cristo Redentor & Selected Sessions. CD. (Raven Records - RVCD 163)

1968 debut from Detroit guitar wizard and it's a psych rock classic! Fluid guitar lines over a varied selection of tunes ranging from jazzy funky, blues-rock (similar to Electric Flag) to lush orchestrated, haunting easy songs and even a bit or rural country rock (steel guitarist Pete Drake appears). Mandel later went on to replace Henry Vestine in Canned Heat and even auditioned for the Rolling Stones in the 70's (he appeared on 'Black & Blue') only to be beaten out by Ron Wood. Usually regarded as his best album, Cristo Redentor is now available on CD complete with eight bonus cuts. Great psych artwork!

Harvey Mandel - Baby Batter / The Snake. CD. (Akarma - AK075/76)

Two fine early Seventies albums from the Canned Heat guitarist. They contain a wide variety of styles, with Mandel's bluesy guitar work to the fore, but generally a funky, psychy jazzy sound backed up with orchestration creates at times, an atmosphere similar to David Axelrods more electric work. Musicians involved include Sugarcane Harris, Howard Wales, and Canned Heat members Larry Taylor and Fito De La Parra.Housed in a four fold digi pack.
