Exploring many styles from Rock to Jazz Funk, this album is probably better known under its parent title, 'Clear Air Turbulence'. This version, recorded in Rockfield Studios in Wales, contains the original mixes and is now presented with bonus tracks and a 12 page booklet.
Recorded at the famous Japanese sumo wrestling venue on 22nd September 1977 by the Ian Gillan Band: It was released in Japan in December 1977 in two volumes, but only released in the UK and Europe as a 2 LP set in July 1983. The first three sides of the original vinyl feature extended work-outs of songs from the IGB albums "Clear Air Turbulence" and "Scarabus".The release closes with storming versions of three Deep Purple classics: "Child InTime", "Smoke On The Water", and "Woman From Tokyo". Clear Air Turbulence / My Baby Loves Me / Scarabus / Money Lender / Twin Exhausted /Over The Hill / Mercury High / Child In Time / Smoke On The Water / Woman From Tokyo
"Child In Time" was the first album by Ian Gillan after his departure from Deep Purple in 1973. The Ian Gillan Band comprised Ian Gillan himself, Ray Fenwick (guitar),John Gustafson (bass), Mike Moran (keyboards), and Mark Nauseef (drums). Released in July 1976, it reached # 55 in the UK album chart and shows the band pursuing a jazz rock direction. The title track is an amazing reworking of the DeepPurple classic from "Deep Purple In Rock".The languorous "Let It Slide", almost 12 minutes in length, gives the band the opportunity to showcase their skills.
