Ian Hunter - The Truth, The Whole Truth And Nuthin' But The Truth. Dble CD. (Snapper / Charly - SMDCD571)

An excellent and exemplary live set-and your reviewer speaks from experience, for he was there!! Recorded at the Astoria Theatre, London, May 2004, this is the Mott frontman and all-round general legend of rock at the very top of his toppermost form, with a set featuring the old, the new and the best. From Mott oldies like 'Rock N Roll Queen' 'I Wish I was Your Mother' 'Roll Away The Stone' 'The Journey' 'Saturday Gigs' '. . .Memphis' (featuring Ralpher, Brian May and Joe Elliott) and '. . .Dudes' to solo classics 'Cleveland Rocks' 'Standing In My Light' 'Irene Wilde' 'Once Bitten Twice Shy' and of course the title track, to later faves '23A Swan Hill' 'Twisted Steel' and his heartfelt Ronson tribute 'Michael Picasso', they're all there. One of his best recent tunes, 'This Ain't Eastenders' was definitely performed at the gig, but seems to have disappeared- other than that this is the show exactly as those who were there saw it, heard it, felt it and loved it. Sheer genius.

Ian Hunter - Dirty Laundry. CD. (Cherry Red - CDMRED 321)

Re-release of an album previously only out in Norway. By 1994 Ian Hunter was re-gathering his strength after the sad death the previousyear of friend, guitarist and long-time right-hand man Mick Ronson. Keyboarist Casino Steel (The Boys) was planning to record an album with some friends (including Honest John Plain, Glen Matlock, Blue Weaver and Darrell Bath from the British Punk New Wave movement) Darrell Bathand invited Ian down to the sessions. The album that emerged was a hard rocking affair that brought Hunter closer to his Mott The Hoople roots than he had been in years. Recorded at Abbey Road and in Oslo, the mixture of Hunter originals and tracks from the rest of the band create a rocking twelve tracks that will delight any Hunter fan who have been waiting for the re-release of this long unavailable album.
