Jackie DeShannon - Laurel Canyon. CD. (RPM - RPM304) Originally released in 1968, this album is one of Jackie's personal favourites and one of the strongest she ever recorded, including versions of 'The Weight' and 'Sunshine Of Your Love', plus 'Come Stay With Me' written by Jackie for Marianne Faithfull. Barry White also appears on the album, but in a well disguised role: memorabilia and pictures from Jackie's own archive have been added to the package, and rare masters, including one of her best known toons 'Put A Little Love In Your Heart' complete another irresistible dose of DeShannon magic.

Jackie DeShannon - Don't Turn Your Back On Me/This Is Jackie De Shannon. CD. (B.G.O. Records - BGOCD684) Two albums on one disc both originally released on Liberty in the mid-60s. Ms DeShannon, although underappreciated by the music fraternity at large, is one of the most groundbreaking female artists in music history: although she started as a packaged pretty face popstrel singing other people's material, she soon graduated to writing her own material for other people- such as 'When You Walk In The Room' by the Searchers and (radically, for a woman at the time) releasing albums of her own songs. She was also one of the first major figures to break out of pop and into the folk-rock boom, her favoured jangling guitar sound laying the foundations for the Byrds and a host of others. These two albums are at the opposite ends of her spectrum: the first features mainly her own compositions, and is aimed squarely at the Greenwich Village market (hence the inclusion of 'He's Got The Whole World In His Hands') whereas the second is a far more lounge affair, featuring 90 percent covers among which nestles her biggest solo hit, a cover of Bacharach and David's "What The Word Needs Now Is Love". Digitally remastered and slipcased with notes- a solid introduction to a unique talent.

Jackie DeShannon - Breakin' It Up On The Beatles Tour. CD. (RPM - RPM302) Wonderful collection of originals and covers from this first lady of Pop, including her best known compositions 'When You Walk In The Room' and 'You Won't Forget Me' both of which have been recorded by all and sundry.- compiled in 1964 to capitalise on her status as tour support to the Beatles. Arranged by the legendary Jack Nitzsche, with notes by Jim Pierson and Jackie herself, remastered from the original tapes, and released on CD for the first time- the mega bonus being EIGHT tracks not included on the original album, drawn from the singles of the time. Fab.

Jackie DeShannon - Are You Ready For This. CD. (RPM - RPM303) Second Jackie DeShannon reissue from the excellent RPM label, collating several very Diana Ross-style tunes ( but who influenced who?) Jackie's hit "I Can Make It With You", the Bacharach- David collectables "To Wait For Love" "Windows And Doors" and "So Long Johnny" and a slew of eight bonus tracks originally released as non-LP singles. Endorsed by the Jackster, as she was never known, herself: mastered from original vault tapes, and never before reissued in any format.

Jackie DeShannon - For You. CD. (RPM - RPM316) Classy orch-pop album from 1967 featuring the string arrangements of Calvin Carter. Next to the rock and roll oriented material she had previously been known for, this is a whole different world of delights to discover. Includes 'When I Fall In Love' 'It's All In The Game' and several others, as well as several bomus tracks from the preceding album 'New Image'.

Jackie DeShannon - Put A Little Love In Your Heart. CD. (RPM - RPM314) Originally released on Imperial in 1969, this was at least the thirteenth of Jackie's albums in nearly half that amount of years- and marked a further collaboration with Jimmie Holliday and Randy Myers, giving her massive Top Ten US hits with the title track and 'Love Will Find A Way'. Includes several bonus tracks from the 1970 album 'To Be Free' although why they didn't just rerelease that as well is something of a mystery. Great music though.

Jackie DeShannon - Songs. CD. (RPM - RPM315) At time of writing, no information given!! However, hereare the notes from Cherry Red that cover all three of May's DeShannon releases: RPM is proud to present a second set of Jackie DeShannon album packages, to follow the highly successful initial set of three released last autumn. We now move into the late 60's early 70's, a time when female singer-songwriters were more accepted in the industry. A situation opened up by Jackie DeShannon during her early 60's success as a songwriter. Again each package has been lovingly re-mastered from original Capitol Studios tape masters, plus bonus tracks, and boast more exclusive photos and memorabilia from the Jackie DeShannon personal archive. Making these releases absolute must haves for fans. Second set of three album packages following up Autumn '05 successful releases, featuring bonus tracks and exclusive packaging material.

Jackie DeShannon - What He World Needs Now - Ultimate Collection. CD. (Capitol Records - CZ539) Twenty eight track best of for the '60's postress. More successful as a songwriter than as a performer, this collection highlights her own abilities as a singer and an arranger of popular songs of the time (some of them her own). She veers off from uptempo rockers, softer ballads and folkiy reflective numbers; a number of the tracks her were madefamous after she recorded them such as "Needles And Pins" Also includes: "Lifetime Of Loneliness", "Brighton Hill", "Heaven Is Being With You" and "I Can Make It With You." A great alternative example of '60's pop.
