Latest additions & updates to our catalogue:
Roxy Music - Thrill Of It All 1972-82. DVD. Definitive Roxy Music DVD vividly captures the band's recording career. It is packed with live footage, much of it previously unseen in the UK, and their back catalogue of promo videos. Following their early years with performances at the Royal College of Art and on the Old Grey Whistle Test, to their iconic performances on Top Of The Pops, and including live material from many of their memorable gigs, the DVD is a visual feast which will satisfy even the most ardent Roxy fans. Perhaps most significant is footage from the Montreux Rose Festival - the last filmed performance of Brian Eno with the band. With memorable TV performances for singles like 'Virginia Plain', 'Do The Strand' and 'Pyjamarama', classic videos for tracks like 'Avalon' and 'Jealous Guy' and the unforgettable live recordings of tracks like 'Editions Of You' and 'Street Life' this DVD really demonstrates a band who triumphantly combined both style and substance | Bay City Rollers - Strangers In The Wind. CD. First ever UK CD release for the Bay City Rollers sixth studio album from 1978, the last to feature vocalist Les McKeown. Includes the UK single version of 'All Of The World Is Falling In Love' (appearing on CD for the firsttime), the Japanese single 'Another Rainy Day In New York City' and the German Top 50 hit 'Where Will I Be Now'. Booklet contains original LP artwork, lyrics to all the songs, detailed liner notes and pictures of allthe associated singles sleeves. |
Redwing - Redwing. CD. This album makes its long-overdue CD debut here, showing Redwing to be an excellent, unfairly neglected piece of the early 1970s Californian musical jigsaw. They’d made an earlier psych-pop album as Glad, featuring Timothy B Schmit, (later of Poco and the Eagles), and when he departed they regrouped and put together this classy collection of gritty rock and roll. It was much-praised on its original release in 1971, but despite gigging alongside acts including Delaney & Bonnie, Deep Purple, the Steve Miller Band, and releasing four further LPs the band never got the commercial breakthrough they deserved. | Richard Twice - Richard Twice. CD. This glorious pop album, originally released in 1970, makes its long-overdue CD debut here. Named after the mysterious duo of Richard Atkins and Richard Manning (whom its sleeve tells us are ‘as different as the sun and the moon in their daily lives, and yet who can sing songs that go directly to the heart of the matter, with a seemingly single mind and voice’), its beautifully-crafted songs and glorious melodies have assured it an ever-growing cult reputation. Featuring top-notch backing from musicians such as Drake Levin (Paul Revere & the Raiders), Larry Knechtel (Bread), Mark Tulin (the Electric Prunes) and Rusty Young (Poco), it’s bound to appeal to all fans of high-quality early ‘70s US pop-rock. |
Nervous Tension - Various. CD. Nervous Tension plucks 24, rip-snorting, amped-up declarations of post-punk intent from the catalogues of the labels which fall under the umbrella of EMI, including DinDisc, Harvest, Pre, United Artists and Virgin. Classics jostle with rarities and rediscovered nuggets. Remastered from the original tapes at Abbey Road, these gems are timeless. Mainly because these bands followed their own musical paths and had no truck with conforming to sonic stereotypes. Marrying the jagged and angular to the energy of punk was inspirational, as was drawing on a dance or reggae sensibility. Includes,Magazine, Scars, Gang Of Four, Skids, Flys, XTC, Public Image and more | Delfonics - La La Means I Love You / Sounds Of Sexy Soul. CD. First ever UK CD issue for these two pioneering Philly Soul albums, by one of the most unique and beloved groups ever to emerge from the City Of Brotherly Love. Twenty four tracks in total, mastered from the original Philly Groove/Bell production tapes. |
Sandra Philips / Bette Williams - Swamp Dog's Southern Soul Girls. CD. Desperately collectable Southern Soul from the early 70s, produced and mostly written by genre giant Jerry Williams a.k.a. Swamp Dogg.Recorded in Muscle Shoals, AL and Macon, GA with A-list musicians in attendance, many of these tracks have not appeared on any format or have disappeared not long after their intial release. Collecting together Phillips thirty seven year old album and Bette Williams variosu 45 releases of the era, this CD collection has twenty one tacks in total. | Tommy Tate - I'm So Satisfied - The Complete Koko Recordings And More. CD. Superior Muscle Shoals-recorded Southern (and Northern) soul from a hero of fans of both genres. These twenty tracks are everyting he recorded for Koko and Stax between between 1971 and 1977. A muched sought after release, the last decent compilation of his work was out on limited edition over a decade ago. |
Dells - Always Together - Great Chess Ballads. CD. Twenty one track celebration of the great Chicago soul legends. Although they have a big dance and Northern Soul following, this album will appeal to the fans of their laid back lovers tracks. Collected here are a selection of tracks which were hit singles and notable album tracks. Booklet contains informative notes and anabundance of label repro's and memorabilia. | Johnny Nash - My Merry-Go-Round. CD. The Nashville born Reggae star's most acclaimed Long Playing achivement. Released by 1973, it doesn't feature any of the big crossover number that Nash would become famous for and was cruelly ignored by the public. Concentrating more on more soulful arrangements than the previous years: I Can See Clearly Now LP, it highlights his sweet vocal talents. A real gem. |

Isaac Hayes - Live At Montreux 2005. DVD. DVD of the Soul legend's most recent Montreux appearance. This is the first live concert DVD release for Hayes, whose career dates back to the start of the sixties; he has had top selling singles, released ground breaking albums, composed the Grammy and Oscar winning film score for "Shaft", supplied the voice of Chef in "South Park" (before all that bother over Scientology) and written innumerable hit songs for other artists. Sadly no "Chocolate Salty Balls", the former South Park Star does dip into his vast back catalogue: "Theme From Shaft", "Walk On By", "Joy", "Don’t Let Go." PAL / REGION 2 / MAIN FEATURE: 122 MINS | Bruce Springsteen - Under Review 1978-82: Tale Of The Working Man. DVD. Although Bruce Springsteens huge body of work has had its highs and its not so highs, there is one distinct period within his career that remains, almost inarguably, his most creative, consistent, and satisfying. We talk of course of the trilogy of albums he released between 1978 and 1982, comprising Darkness On The Edge Of Town, The River and Nebraska. Across these records Bruces storytelling was up there with Steinbecks, his songs ranked with Dylans best and the live shows were as exciting as anything James Brown had ever delivered. This documentary film looks again at these albums, and the shows he performed around them. |
