Jim Croce - The Very Best Of Jim Croce. CD. (Castle - SMBCD398)

The accident which robbed Jim Croce of his life in 1973 took away a songwriting talent that had just reached its prime. On this album are collected the classic songs from his tragically brief career, including instant standards like 'Bad Bad Leroy Brown' (covered by none other than the master himself- Frank Sinatra, who HATED most rock music, so it must be a good song) , 'Time In A Bottle' and 'You Don't Mess Around With Jim')

Jim Croce - I Got A Name (Expanded Version). CD. (Castle - CMRCD1330)

Final album from great Americana singer songwriter who died the same year. Eleven track album specially extended to two disks, totalling twenty seven tracks. Probably Jim's finest album, his regular producers Cashmann and West have refined their approach, perfectly accompanting a maturing vocal performance. As always, there is a humourous, tough-tender approach to his anecdotal lyrics. Due to his death, some of the songs like "Age" take on an eerie edge and appear fatalistic, similar to late Lennon. This only pushes his philosophical, humble persona further. Highlighs include "I'll Have To Say I Love You In A Song" a superb acoustic ballad and the surprising "Salon and Saloon," a sparse piano led song that showcases Jim's expressive vocal capabilities, perhaps a side to him that had remained largely hidden until then. His lack of lyrically cliches and pretension, coupled with simple, catchy melodies leads you to wonder what heights he could have reached given the chance.

Jim Croce - Life And Times (Expanded Version). Dble CD. (Castle - CMDDD 1331)

Second album from American singer/songwriter tragically killed a year after it's release in 1972. Continuing Jim's Americana style song writing from "You Don't Mess Around With" released earlier that year. "Life And Times" finds more first rate song craftmanship as well as a more personal, accomplished vocal performance. Appropriately titled, Croce draws on personal experience to create damn fine, part autobiogaphical stories. Surprisingly he manages to stay within the restrictions of three minute pop songs without his ideas suffering. An admirable album by a possible great of the genre. Sadly missed. Special extended version CD now has twelve tracks in total and a bonus disc of live performances.

Jim Croce - You Don't Mess Around With Jim (Expanded Edition). Dble CD. (Castle - CMDDD 1332)

Classic album from the singer/songwriter killed in a 1973 plane crash. "You Don't Mess With" was Jim's first commercial hit back in '72, detailing blue collar America in sharp, witty detail. The version here expands upon the original twelve tracks, giving the listener a whopping thirty four digitally remastered songs to play with. Considered to be the next big American song writer before his death, Jim's albums become essential snapshots of the way the world was then. Although often dark in content, his tales are rarely morose or self pitying, often comic and up tempo. An interesting alternative to the more heart-on-sleeve Springsteen. Bonus disk tracks include "Maybe Tomorrow" "The Way We Used To Be" "Can't Wait" and "Circle Of Style"

Jim Croce - Home Recordings - Americana. CD. (High Coin - SABRECD2004)

When Jim Croce died tragically in a plane crash on Sept. 20, 1973, he was just thirty years old and had recently been recognized as one of the most promising artists of his era. From only three original studio releases he earned two #1 singles, six more Top 40 singles and a #1 album. Home Recordings is the first album of unreleased material in 30 years. These are the best of America’s roots songs, from country to blues, recorded by Jim in his Pennsylvania home on a Wollensak recorder. Shared by his family for the first time, these are intimate, revealing songs made all the more emotional as a result of Jim’s life cut short.
