Joe Beck - Nature Boy. LP. (Breeder Backtrack - FTS 3081)

1969 debut solo album from US guitarist Joe Beck who worked with James Brown, David Sanborn, Pretty Purdie and a whole host of soul/jazz luminaries. A real psychedelic west coast vibe permeates the whole album with some superb fuzz/wah guitar solos as well as some jazzier playing. Featuring an excellent version of Eden Ahbez' "Nature Boy" and with a group consisting of Randy Brecker (later to play with Zappa) and Danny Whitten (of Neil Young/Crazy Horse fame).

Joe Beck - Nature Boy. CD. (Long Hair Music - LHC47)

Originally released 1969 on Verve this is a truly lost jewel, released for the first time on CD. Joe Beck (briefly the guitarist with Tim Hardin's band,) is one of the most famous jazz guitar players of the 60's and he recorded this album with fellow Donald McDonald on drums and -amongst various guest musicians - Danny Whitten, guitar player of Crazy Horse before they worked together with Neil Young. On this album Beck, influenced by Eric Clapton and Jimi Hendrix, created a song-oriented psychedelic rock style with slightly jazz influences showing his remarkable guitar skills, including some fine Wah-Wah treatments. Really great stuff. CD comes with informative booklet. Highly recommended.
