Katatonia - The Black Sessions. 2 CD + DVD. (Peaceville - CDVILEB129) An essential, and we do mean essential, for all fans of atmospheric, gothic dooooooom metal. Six years (1998-2004) worth of material collected together in a lavish, beautifully packaged, limited edition 2CD + DVD box set, released Feb 2005, featuring all of Katatonia's singles and b-sides to date, plus the best tracks from their first and most recent studio albums, and even one unreleased track "Wait Outside". In clam box format, with added 12 page booklet and poster, this is the most comprehensive introduction to the Swede miserablists' ouvre ever issued. Topping it all is a superb full concert DVD from the 2003 tour.

Katatonia - The Great Cold Distance. CD. (Peaceville - CDVILEF128) Seventh album of icy cold progressive-Gothic-doom-death from the Scandinavian masters. Like Anathema, Paradise Lost, Beyond Dawn and others before them, they have moved gradually further and further away from their original Doom-Death imprint and toward atmospheric, alternative-sounding songs: however, unlike those other bands, they have retained their metallic riffing power. This album has already been highly acclaimed by the metal press: now make your own minds up. And they're still better than that bloody Welsh indie band.

Katatonia - Brave Murder Day. CD. (Peaceville - CDVILED154) Undoubtedly their breakthrough album, originally released way back in 1996, ‘Brave Murder Day’ is as fresh today as it was then. The primitive structures and melodies give this album an unparalleled trance-like quality, by taking a strong early Paradise Lost influence and forming a completely unique sound.The majority of the vocal duties, in a more guttural death metal style, were carried out by a certain Mikael Åkerfeldt of Opeth, while Jonas Renkse delivered the more touching heartfelt vocals that he is re-known for today on the ethereal track ‘Day’ (also showing their influence by non-metal acts such as The Cure), as well as playing drums on the album.‘Brave Murder Day’ was recorded at Unisound, Sweden, in July 1996, and was engineered by Dan Swanö (Marduk, Dark Funeral, Dissection).This re-issue also includes the ‘Sounds of Decay’ EP from 1997, again featuring Mikael Åkerfeldt on vocals, and delivering yet more quality groundbreaking gothic/doom metal in a similar style to ‘Brave Murder Day’.

Katatonia - Discouraged Ones. CD. (Peaceville - CDVILED155) The Stockholm based group's third album from 1998, now re-mastered and re-issued. An emotionally charged epic release, the atmospheric absorbing sound the band creates is so damn miserable the singer barely finds the strength to produce any notes. Not exactly mos pit material, this one of those metal records that gets into your head and your heart. Expanded with two bonus tracks: "Quiet World" (an unused track from the album sessions) and "Scarlet Heavens" (dating back to 1994.)
