Redwing - Redwing. CD.
(Label: Fallout, Cat.No: FOCD2074)

Click for large image This album makes its long-overdue CD debut here, showing Redwing to be an excellent, unfairly neglected piece of the early 1970s Californian musical jigsaw. They’d made an earlier psych-pop album as Glad, featuring Timothy B Schmit, (later of Poco and the Eagles), and when he departed they regrouped and put together this classy collection of gritty rock and roll. It was much-praised on its original release in 1971, but despite gigging alongside acts including Delaney & Bonnie, Deep Purple, the Steve Miller Band, and releasing four further LPs the band never got the commercial breakthrough they deserved.

Richard Twice - Richard Twice. CD.
(Label: Fallout, Cat.No: FOCD2070)

Click for large image This glorious pop album, originally released in 1970, makes its long-overdue CD debut here. Named after the mysterious duo of Richard Atkins and Richard Manning (whom its sleeve tells us are ‘as different as the sun and the moon in their daily lives, and yet who can sing songs that go directly to the heart of the matter, with a seemingly single mind and voice’), its beautifully-crafted songs and glorious melodies have assured it an ever-growing cult reputation. Featuring top-notch backing from musicians such as Drake Levin (Paul Revere & the Raiders), Larry Knechtel (Bread), Mark Tulin (the Electric Prunes) and Rusty Young (Poco), it’s bound to appeal to all fans of high-quality early ‘70s US pop-rock.

Curt Newbury - Half A Month Of Maydays. CD.
(Label: Fallout, Cat.No: FOCD2068)

Click for large image Curt Newbury was a flying instructor, a licensed hypnotist and a gifted singer-songwriter. This unfairly-neglected collection was the only album he would ever release and originally appeared in 1970 and makes its long-overdue CD debut here. Featuring superb backing from members of US psych heroes Kaleidoscope, as well as legendary session guitarist Mike Deasy (who contributes some brilliant solos), it’s a varied and consistently enjoyable set that’s sure to appeal to all fans of acid-tinged folk-

Roger Mcguinn - Roger McGuinn & Band / Cardiff Rose. CD.
(Label: B.G.O. Records, Cat.No: BGOCD774)

Click for large image Two mid 70's masterpieces, first out on CBS. Digitally remastered and slipcased. Only spattered with McGuinn originals, & Band album is appropriately titled as the players around him (organised by producer John Boylan) contribute songs and a solid backing for the former Byrd's third solo achievement. After becoming friends on the Rolling Thunder Revue, McGuinn teamed up with Mick Ronson for Cardiff Rose, with the former Spider from Mars producing and playing. This unlikely partnership (alongside other Rolling thunder players Rob Stoner, Howie Wyeth, and David Mansfield) easily creates one of McGuinn's best solo releases. Digitally remastered and slipcased.
