Mac Macleod - Incredible Journey Of The Original Hurdy Gurdy Man. CD. (RPM Bam Caruso - RPMBC258)

An early 60's smoky folk club contemporary of Mick Softly, Bert Jansch, John Renbourn, and Maddy Prior, Mac Macleod had a varied and underground career. Early on he worked with Donovan - becoming the subject of the song Hurdy Gurdy man - but he was far from just a folkie. The tracks here contain all of his rare recordings from acoustic folk beginnings through one-off psych groups like Exploding Mushroom, the ripping Acid rock band Hurdy Gurdy (who performed at Middle Earth with Pink Floyd, later made an album, sans Mac, in Denmark and are referenced by the tripped-out jam "Neo Camel") the sitar drenched acid folk of Amber and even a very early version of Argent. The CD ends with a new recording of Hurdy Gurdy Man, sung by The Hurdy Gurdy man himself! A great selection of underground psych and folk all on one disc together with a fascinating fold-out booklet. On Bam Caruso too!
