Maceo & All The King's Men - Doing Their Own Thing. CD. (Snapper / Charly - SNAP003CD)

"My cat's name is Maceo", sang oddball Jane's Addiction frontman Perry Farrell. Well, he was in good company, as the REAL Maceo- Parker- is one very cool cat indeed, as this previously ultra rare debut post-James Brown release from 1970, now available on CD after years of fetching up to £100 on vinyl, proves. Utilising most of the Brown band he took with him, and thus still featuring most of their dirty, evil swagger and groove, but stretching out into Tower Of Power/ BST style fusions that the Godfather wouldn't allow, this is a landmark funk release alongside 'Maggot Brain' and 'Cabbage Alley'. This beautiful digipak reissue features the original cover, plus sleevenotes by Cliff White (who else?) and retails for a striking 8 pounds.
