This is a twenty track collection of recordings made in the early - mid '50s when he was a bandleader which show of his highly dextrous skills with his trusty piece of wood. Quentin Crisp - An Evening With The Naked Civil Servant. Dble CD. After a more than a two-decade absence, These recordings of Crisp in New York in 1979 are available again. They originally arose as a result of the popularity of the film adaptation of the book The Naked Civil Servant, and capture one of 'Britain's stately homos' in garrulous form, delighting aninvited audience. Quentin Crisp was one of our most cherished satirists and commentators his flippancy, self deprecationand theatricality masked a fervent intelligence and a sharp eye for the detail of contemporary English life. Includes bonus 35-minute unreleased interview with Morgan Fisher from 1980. | Bobby Darin - Sings Doctor Dolittle / Born Walden Robert Cassotto. CD. His last album for Altantic Records and his first on his own Direction label are an interesting two fer one combination as they bookend a time of personal tragedy for the singer and represent two very different sides of his characrer. As the title suggests, Darin sings the Leslie Bricusse numbers from the Doctor Dolittle film in his amiable swing pop style. His next album (titled with his birth name) was completely self written in a caravan in Big Sur California during a time of reflection and rebuilding of his personal life. It his first folk protest album and shows off a hitherto unknown side to him, touching on the death of Robert Kennedy and the slave trade. Never released on CD before, this sought after album features rare photos from the era. Twenty tracks in all, including: "At The Crossroads", "Long Line Rider", "After Today" and "In Memoriam." |
Brian Hyland - Country Meets Folk / Here's To Our Love. CD. First time on CD for these early 60’s albums from Brian Hyland, digitally remastered and slipcased. Backed by a small combo of 12-string guitar, bass, and banjo, Country Meets Folk is Hylands response to the rising popularity of rock groups and singer / songwriters after the British Invasion of the early sixties and finds him flirting with country, blues and folk. The change in the market had forced Hyland and his contemporaries to up their game, something which had benefitted the former pop star's albums despite the lack of consistant chart success after the Beatles and Herman's Hermits arrived on the scene. His creative renaissance continued with his next album Here's To Our Love. | Get Rhythm! Hot Wax From The Sun Vaults - [7" VINYL] [Limited Edition] [Box Set]. 6 x 7" box set. Roddy Jackson - Central Valley Firegirl. CD. For the first, time the complete 50's recordings by this rock n roll piano-pounding screamer. Best known by aficionados for his brace of novelty-tinged Specialty 45s like "Hiccups", there was evidently more to him than that. Notably the fiercer numbers found here are the ones that never saw the light of day; the singer was originally groomed as a white Little Richard by the label’s Art Rupe and Sonny Bono largely due to the throat tearing numbers like "Juke Box Baby" and "I Love Her Just The Same" that he was capable of producing. A small but perfectly formed quintessential 50s wildman, a hugely underrated force. | Jackie Trent - The Magic Of. CD. Jackie was a major star both as a singer and as half of a songwriting/marriage partnership with Tony Hatch, and she topped the charts in 1965 with 'Where Are You Now'. her debut album "The Magic Of" is augmented here with her finest recordings from the latter half of the '60's to make making a total of twenty six tracks. Includes some serious rarities such as "7.10 From Surburbia", a few psychedelic tracks "Morning Dew" and her extrraordinary cover of "Such A Smal Love." |
