Mott The Hoople - Wildlife. CD. (Angel Air - SJPCD159)

Mott's third album recorded in 1969 and released by Island in 1971 and featured a predominance of Mick Ralphs' songs and a couple of killer Ian Hunter ballads. The set contained the classic "Original Mixed Up Kid," and the group moved towards some interesting progresssive territory, like the string-drenched "Waterlow," the country-tinged "It Must Be Love," and the faithful reading of Melanie's "Lay Down." This set has been re-mastered and conatins 2 bonus tracks one being a cover of Mountain's "Long Red".

Mott The Hoople - Mott The Hoople. CD. (Angel Air - SJPCD157)

Debut album from 1969 which instantly gave them their first anthem with the pile-driving 'Rock and Roll Queen'. The album is wildly imaginative and invigorating, and that's enough to make this a fine debut with choice covers such as 'You Really Got Me' and 'Laugh At Me' (Sonny Bono). These touches revealed a band whose rowdy power was matched by humor, clever twists, and above all intelligence, all of these qualities stayed with them and the rest is history. This Guy Stevens (Art) produced album really has stood the test of time.

Mott The Hoople - Mad Shadows. CD. (Angel Air - SJPCD158)

The band's second album 'Mad Shadows' (1970) saw the Hoople in a more sombre mood. Cutting out most of their humor and ratcheting up the volume, the group turns out seven songs that alternate between thundering rockers and heavy prog. This album is a thrilling journey into the darkside, simply because the band and producer Guy Stevens (Art) take you on a mad journey through fine moments like the rampaging "Walkin' With a Mountain" and the closing ballad "When My Mind's Gone." Any record with songs as strong as these is worth hearing, but only if you are mad enough to delve into this dark & unsettling work. This remastered re-issue contains 2 bonus tracks and a comprehensive 20 page booklet.

Mott The Hoople - Family Anthology. Dble CD. (Angel Air - SJPCD196)

Fascinating double disc set covering the far-reaching branches of the Mott family tree, from obvious connections like Hunter-Ronson and Bad Company to The Rats, The Doc Thomas Group, Silence, Les Norman & The Buddies (pre-Mott beat combos featuring Ralphs, Watts and Griffin) British Lions, the Ariel Bender and Verden Allen bands, and John Fiddler- although sadly no London or Steve Hyams. It's incredible to see how far Mott's influence has spread over the last thirty years- now one can see what made it possible. Also featured is Ralpher's original demo of 'Can't Get Enough' the song that caused him to leave and form Bad Company, several live renditions of Mott tunes hitherto unreleased (including the never-before- heard 'Can You Sing The Song That I Sing' and 'Chosen Road') and an informative 28 page booklet by Mott fanzine editor Keith Smith (not the jazz trumpeter/actor) and an introduction from Buff himself. It's a mighty long way down rock and roll. . .

Mott The Hoople - Brain Capers. CD. (Angel Air - SJPCD160)

1971 release from the boys which opens with the ferocious ‘Death May Be Your Santa Claus', its title pichedf from the song of the same titler by Second Hand. which really sets you up for one of Mott's heavier outings. The most amazing thing about the album is that none of the songs really change character. It's all straightforward hard rock, and one track, 'The Moon Upstairs' is oft cited as a blueprint for punk.. There is also an amazing cover of the Youngbloods' 'Darkness Darkness'.This remastered version contains 2 bonus tracks and expanded booklet.

Mott The Hoople - All The Young Dudes. LP.

Exact repro vinyl version of the 1972 album that broke all barriers open for the band after an image makeover, Bowie gave them a surefire hit with "All the Young Dudes," had them cover his idol's "Sweet Jane," and produced the album that made them the international stars they deserved to be. This album is as much a testament to Bowie's popularity as it is to his studio skill.

Coming from Overend Watt's personal collection, these gigs are a fascinating insight into the bands early days as an excillarating and vibrant live act, a non-plussed reaction from any crowd member was not tollerated. Mott The Hoople - Fairfield Halls, Live 1970. CD. (Angel Air - SJPCD250)

The gig at Fairfield Halls, Croydon, England13th September 1970 was the fist ever attempt to capture Mott’s feral stage act on tape. Despite the positive outcome, these tapes ended up in Overend Watts' personal archive for over three decades and quickly moved into Hoople mythology. Recorded on The Who’s then state of the art portable eight track machine, the band blew the headline act Free off the stage and show the band engaging with the crowd, cajoling them and challenging them until they gave some sort of reaction. The seven track performance has been boosted with five songs from a gig on 16th February 1971 at The Konserthuset, Stockholm, Sweden. A definite for all Hoople fans.
