Click for large image This CD looks through the Acid Jazz label’s early singles, classic old cuts that filled dancefloors, and essential album tracks. This is the original sound of Acid Jazz as defined by Gilles Peterson and Edward Piller. Its aim is to sum up one of the most vibrant club scenes of the late 80s -the one true alternative to the march of house music. · As well as early singles by Galliano, the Brand New Heavies and A Man Called Adam, it also features the CD debut for the genre's rarest track: "Like A Gun" by King Truman, a pseudonym for The Style Council. Only 300 copies wre produced of this rare single before it was pulled by Weller's record label of the time. Fourteen tracks in total.

Click for large image Desperately collectable Southern Soul from the early 70s, produced and mostly written by genre giant Jerry Williams a.k.a. Swamp Dogg.Recorded in Muscle Shoals, AL and Macon, GA with A-list musicians in attendance, many of these tracks have not appeared on any format or have disappeared not long after their intial release. Collecting together Phillips thirty seven year old album and Bette Williams variosu 45 releases of the era, this CD collection has twenty one tacks in total.

Can't Be Satisfied: The XL And Sounds Of Memphis Story - Various. CD.

Click for large image The first compilation to take a definitive look at the ten year runs of the XL and Sounds of Memphis labels, run by an ex-Sun Records songwriter and liquor distributor. Specialising in uptempo soul, there are also moments of stripped down Southern Soul and rare dance floor records. From 1965 -1975, these labels featured: Spencer Wiggins, Dan Greer, The Ovations, Anne Hodge, Barbara and the Browns, Vision, as well as Billy Cee and Freedom Express, all represented over these twenty two tracks. Booklet benefits from selections from the massive Sounds Of Memphis photo archive and interviews with the reclusive Stan Kessler, label co-owner Gene Luchessi and Charles Chalmers.

Click for large image Twenty four track collection of songs written by Larry Banks a performed by many. In 1964 Dave Godin was captivated by Bessie Banks´original recording of ‘Go Now’ and was incensed by the Moody Blues´ usurping of the song and what he considered an unduly hasty campaign by the British record company to pass their version off as the original and best. As a result, he decided to push Larry himself, championing his releases on Select, Kapp and Spring and his composing and production work with artists such as The Exciters, Kenny Carter, Milton Bennett, Jaibi, The Shaladons and The Geminis. This is the sum of Dave's work, bringing together various barely heard or unreleased Banks number as well as better known Northern Soul and Deep Soul classics.

Click for large image Zell Sanders was one of the first black female record label owners / producers in the business. This is a collection of the girl groups / female singers that she produced on numerous labels throughout the late 50's and 60's. Featuring the Jaynetts, the Hearts, Rita Zell, Ada Ray, the Endeavors and others. This is the only place to legitimately get this tracks, many of which are impossible rare and collectable.

Walter Jackson - Speak Her Name - The Okeh Recordings Vol 3. CD.

Click for large image The final instalment in Kent’s trilogy of CDs featuring the complete surviving Okeh, Columbia and Epic masters finds Walter Jackson in New York in 1967-68, recording what many consider to be the best material of his entire career. Virtually none of these tracks has ever appeared on a UK CD before. Twenty tracks in all.

Bird's N Brass - Soundsational Sort Of Soul. CD.

Click for large image Drawn mainly from a pair of rare and sought-after UK-only LP's issued in the early 1970's under the name 'Birds n' Brass' on the Rediffusion label, the tracks were created by arranger and composer Keith Roberts, famous for his contributions to Scott Walker's classic early solo albums. Also included here are ten never before released tracks from the Rediffusion production library. A healthy mixture of pop, lounge and jazz funk, including "Sort Of Soulo" which would become the TV theme to ITV's coverage of the world ice skating championships in the 70's. Trivox fans please note, one of the twenty tracks found on here features the rare / curious keyboard instrument in all it's glory.

Click for large image The third foray into the Kent Modern vaults and it’s another strong set of gutsy soul that will appeal to all serious fans of the genre. These twenty four tracks are a mixture of the rare, obscure and the unissued and cover all angles of Soul: solo singers, groups, blues and semi psychedelic Motown! Featuring tracks by the Ikettes, Mary Love, Jimmy McCracklin, The Four Tees, Little Henry & The Shamrocks, Al King, Willie Headen and Tommy Youngblood. The title of this compilation really is very appropriate.

New York Sound Volume 2 - Various. CD.

Click for large image Second edition of the compilation embracing the sounds coming out of the five boroughs of New York in the late 70's. Ten rare and influential 12-inch mixes from the Spring and Vanguard label are gathered here, documenting the first jumps into hip hop including the first time the music was put together by New York funksters the Fatback Band with "King Tim III (Personality Jock)", as well as the response of Millie Jackson who appears with the rowdy "Had To Say It" available on CD for the first time in its full 12 inch mix. Also included is a single by Spectrum City, the first CD release of a track by an act that would become Public Enemy featuring the distinct voice of Chuck D. This collection is packed with sought after numbers that best represents the evolving, diverse sounds of the time.

Click for large image With a family recording history that spans nearly half a century you would be forgiven for thinking every album to come out of New Orleans has one of the Neville family on! This superb compilation of 30 tracks mainly covers their career during the 60's, arguably their best period of recording. From the off with Art Neville's 'Hook Line and Sinker' right through to the close with brother Charles' 'Dance Your Blues Away' it’s a must have compilation for anyone with any intrest in the Neville Bros or any type of R'n'B.

Phil's Spectre III - A Third Wall Of Soundalikes - Various. CD.

Click for large image The third and final volume of Phil Spector soundalikes is the equal of the previous two in every way. This edition features tracks that are fan favourites that simply couldn't fit on previous releases or they proved difficult to get clerance for. All twenty six tracks are sourced from the master tapes rather than from rare and worn 45s. The CD also features several first time stereos, alternate and extended mixes and tracks that have hitherto stayed unissued since their recording dates, over 40 years ago.

This compilation brings together some of the rarest 45s from the San Francisco bay area of that era; but te real pull of this album for collectors is the fact that half of the album is in fact made up of unreleased material. Featuring tracks by Love Experience, Alonso Smith, Ruby Delicious, Ramona King,Wally Cox and Nate Branch, Jeanete Jones, Off Broadway and many more.
