Oliver - Good Morning Starshine- The Best Of. CD.
(Label: Taragon, Cat.No: TARCD1104)

Click for large image The greatest hits of this legend of easy listening and sunshine pop all assembled for the first time on CD. Oliver (for 'twas he) was of course known for his rendition of the title track (which came from the hit show 'Hair') but also recorded many folk rock and country rock ballads, songs by Rod McKuen ('Jean' being a particular favourite) and his own compositions such as 'Young Birds Fly' and 'Buddy' show the kind of music he wanted to create: complex, orchestrated, sometimes dramatic adult folk-pop similar to that of Bob Lind. There are also tracks here that result from his collaborations with Lesley Gore, which should have reached a larger audience had the world taken him more seriously. Still, he's a legend to us lot in the know. Grab this and find out why!!

Michel Legrand - Castles In Spain. CD.
(Label: El, Cat.No: ACMEM116CD)

Click for large image The master of moods and textures. Originally released in 1956, this was his fourth instrumental album when he was better known as a conductor and arranger than for his film scores. Out on Columbia, it continued the place name themes in his previous album titles: " I Love Paris", "Vienna Holiday" and "Holiday In Rome." This is an early peak for the French composer, Castles In Spain is now considered as an influential classic of the era.

Serge Gainsbourg - Histoire De Melody Nelson. LP.
(Label: , Cat.No: )

Click for large image Fantastic! This may well be Gainsbourg's greatest album ever -- a whole suite based around a spare, electric bass-driven theme, with Serge muttering the lyrics in a raspy loud whisper, while funky rhythms dart in and out of washes of strings and eerie sounds. There's a very strong soundtrack feel to the album, as washes of music envelop the lyrics, tripped out in funky beats that have become legendary over the years, thanks to some very famous samples. Titles include "En Melody","Cargo Culte", "Ballade De Melody Nelson", "Valse De Melody", "Ah!Melody", and "L'Hotel Particulier".

Michel Legrand - Eva: OST's. CD.
(Label: , Cat.No: CASA3CD)

Click for large image A rare film soundtrack by the highly respected composer. The 1962 score to Joseph Losey's film (starring Jeanne Moreau) is considered to be among the jazz composers very best, portraying the same level of charm as his biggest compositions: "Windmills Of Your Mind" and "The Umbrellas Of Cherbourg." Eighteen tracks, featuring vocal contributions by Billie Holiday and Tony Middleton.

Julie London - Good Life / Wonderful World Of. CD.
(Label: Emi Gold, Cat.No: 391 7842)

Click for large image Two original albums that are both making their debut on CD. Her distinctive vocals wrap their way around Cole Porter standards and Doc Pomus and Mort Shuman numbers. Some great easy listrening numbers from the early '60's.

Julie London - Lonely Girl. CD.
(Label: Rev Ola, Cat.No: CRREV 197)

Click for large image The singer's second album continues her own brand of imperfect yet highly erotic vocal performances. Using her sultry tones to alter well known and new tunes into her own, her bedroom whisper making the lyrics extremely personal, full of yearning and loneliness.

Julie London - About The Blues. CD.
(Label: Blue Note, Cat.No: 5386952)

Click for large image 1957 release from the lounge singer with a sexy voice. These nocturnal blues songs suit London perfectly, Russ Garcia's small scale arrangements supporting and embellishing her limited range. Largely a group of well performed standards, there are two songs written especialy for it, one of them: "The Meaning Of The Blues" became a classic when Miles Davis re-arranged it to devastating effect in the same year for his "Miles Ahead" album. One of her best.

Serge Gainsbourg - Cannabis. LP.
(Label: Philips, Cat.No: 6311080)

Click for large image Vinyl repro of this killer french-pop/soundtrack album by Serge Gainsbourg, the master himself, on this excellent soundtrack from 1970 that also featured featuring Jane Birkin. The title track "Cannabis" is an amazing weird psychedelic tune and re-occurs through the album ,while the reaminder is pure Gainsbourg at his most out there. Great stuff and very limited.Exact repro down to the label.

Shirley "count" Bassey - Love Songs Baby. CD.
(Label: EMI Gold, Cat.No: 383 4552)

Jackie DeShannon - What He World Needs Now - Ultimate Collection. CD.
(Label: Capitol Records, Cat.No: CZ539)

Click for large image Twenty eight track best of for the '60's postress. More successful as a songwriter than as a performer, this collection highlights her own abilities as a singer and an arranger of popular songs of the time (some of them her own). She veers off from uptempo rockers, softer ballads and folkiy reflective numbers; a number of the tracks her were madefamous after she recorded them such as "Needles And Pins" Also includes: "Lifetime Of Loneliness", "Brighton Hill", "Heaven Is Being With You" and "I Can Make It With You." A great alternative example of '60's pop.
