Liverpool were one of the pioneers of the tropicalia rock in Brasil, together with Mutantes, Bando, Ronnie Von. They released their sole album in 1969 with psychedelic moods, fuzz guitars and Portuguese lyrics. As bonus tracks we have the E.P (movie soundtrack) "Marcelo Zona Sul" with 6 songs, plus another single from 1971 when they changed the name to " Liverpool Sound ". After that in 1975 the band changed the name to "Bicho da Seda" and did one LP in 1976 in a progressive & jazz rock style. The Lp of Liverpool is in the book "Record Collector dreams 2001" with 4 stars, but we invite you to find a copy for that price (or even better, simply try to find a copy!). The one and only album by Dino & Montevideo Blues from 1972 deserves to be a serious contender as one of the most important, and as it happens, most grooving, records ever released in Uruguay. But there is another reason that the album has attained exalted status: the incisive power of the lyrics, which are all the more impressive considering the national turmoil out of which they were created. Montevideo Blues was founded by Uruguayan song-writing legend Gastón 'Dino' Ciarlo as a way to fuse the rawness of rock music with obscure native Uruguayan rhythms like malambo, milonga and chamarrita—a logical direction to pursue after Dino had attempted pop/candombe fusions in his solo recordings. At the time, we were revolutionary and looking for change, said Dino. Montevideo Blues demonstrated an unyielding and combative attitude. During live shows in 1971, Dino often criticized the government a level of political commitment reflected in the lyrics of the songs, some of the most radical ever set to music. Eduardo Mateo, the sacred monster of modern Uruguayan music, was succinct: "You have decided to prune the tree", he said to Dino. The album opens with one of Dino’s most famous songs ‘Milonga de Pelo Largo’ (‘Milonga of the Long Hair’), a sinuous song transformed by the arrival of the dictatorship into a hymn of Uruguayan popular resistance. The rest of the album tracks have an edgy, atonal quality, with terrific unconventional angular guitar and a kind of ragged glory, all driven along by insistent grooving rhythms, whether from native drums or the clicking of drumsticks. Bonus tracks include beat-rockers ‘Sendero de Rosas’ and ‘Rubio es el color,’ from the rare La Juventud compilation album, as well as both sides of Dino’s two early singles for RCA Vik. A 32-page booklet is packed with photos, detailed band history, and lyrics for this important Uruguayan band.

Out of the southern hemisphere comes the fuzz laden with a measure of combo organ sounds from Brazil's Os Haxixins. For a 2007 release this is one of the most authentic garage bands I’ve heard in some time. These recordings capture true to the recorded performances of the great sixties groups the Music Machine the Standells & We the People. Portuguese & English vocals only adds to the uniqueness of Os Haxixins music.They use only vintage equipment and analog recording techniques to achieve what’s truly a great LP. Not UK, nor USA,, no, not Uruguay, but Columbia. This Genesis comes from Columbia, and it’s a shame they used such a common name, as their music is absolutely unique! Founded by Humberto Monroy (ex-Speakers) in the very early 70’s, they released a bunch of lps, of which this is the second one. This was recorded in March 1974 and is a record that is still unmatched in its field. Flutes, acoustic, electric & 12 string guitars, percussions, bass, occasional harmonica and brilliant vocals offer an unusual and charming sound in the folk, rock & psychedelic veins, but always with a wonderful Andinean folk feel. Most of the tracks are written by Humberto but the more famous number included on the album, was a chilling cover of "Como decirte cuanto te amo" by Cat Stevens. Spanish languaged lyrics praise the beauty of the environment and contain social message in favour of farmers, natives & lower classes people. This is the first ever reissue of such a wonderful album, and it’s a limited edition of 500 vinyl units only. Comes with insert w/linernotes and pictures.

Reissue of the sole album (1969) from this Brazilian rock 'super-group' formed in São Paulo in the end of the 1960’s. O Bando’s music blended MPB, regional music and Tropicallia this engaging combination no doubt thanks to Rogério Duprat, who provides arrangements (along with Damiano Cozzela and Júlio Medaglia). It’s a bizarre record, which starts off with a blast of rampaging brass before searing fuzz guitar and disturbing astral keyboard sound effects kick in; the end result sounds like an insane hellfire version of soundtrack/library music of the period. The rest of the album is quirky in the best of all possible ways: some definitive Tropicalia moments, including a cover version of Toquinho e Jorge Ben’s “Que Maravilha,” funky break intros to many of the songs, and nice harmonies too, when required. Although they used single names in O Bando, the singer 'Marisa' was Marisa Fossa (she later recorded more material with Rogerio Duprat), Paulino was Paul de Castro who also played in Os Mutantes and other Brazilian rock legends, and 'Dudu' was famous Brazilian drummer Dudu Portes, who has backed Elis Regina, Milton Nascimento, and Gal Costa, among others. Influenced by groups like Beatles, Byrds, Stones, Badfinger, Shakers and of course Laghonia and We All Together, the music ranges from guitar psych-rock like "Dirty Girl" (like an outtake from Laghonia’s first album) to Brit sounding pop-psych ("Mr. Taylor’s Train", "Psychiatrist") harmony pop á la Byrds on "Looking for Home", a few rockin’ tunes and some beautiful mid-tempos which show their We All Together influence.
