Phil Ochs - I Ain't Marching Anymore. CD. (Collectors Choice - CCMO6162)

The definitive Phil Ochs album, on which his sharp pen cut a swathe through the machinations and moires of American society leaving no stone unturned, no capitalist unsullied. Topics range from militarism to civil rights, labour struggles and Vietnam. The title track is Ochs' stone classic, but of equal merit are 'Draft Dodger Rag' 'That Was The President' 'The Highwayman' 'Hills Of West Virginia' 'Men Behind The Guns' and 'Days Of Decision'. Dated? Er, only if there was world peace. . .

Phil Ochs - All The News That's Fit To Sing. CD. (Collectors Choice - CCM06152)

The debut release of this sadly overlooked American protest singer was all that and more, sporting songs drawn from the tumultuous events of the day but also an adaptation of an Edgar Allan Poe poem (The Bells) and a tribute to Woody Guthrie (Bound For Glory) An excellent album from a major songwriting talent tragically, like so many others of the time, engulfed in the furore surrounding the admittedly excellent but somewhat overexposed Dylan. Key tracks: 'The Thresher' 'Automation Song' 'Talking Cuban Crisis' and 'Too Many Martyrs'.

Phil Ochs - All The News / I Ain't Marching. Dble CD. (Elektra - 8122 73564-2)

To many, Phil Ochs and not Dylan represented the real heart of the mid '60's folk protest movement. Overtly political and socially concious Phil Ochs made these two albums in 1964 and 1965. Witty, humourous serious and heart-felt they are delightful period pieces. Beautifully packaged with detailed booklet notes, bonus tracks and housed in a slip case.
