Screw were an amazing UK 60s psychedelic blues quintet from south London whose chief claim to fame was their support spot at the Rolling Stones Hyde Park concert in July 1969. The group released no records during their brief heyday (1967-70) but Shagrat Records has unearthed the bands only two extant recordings along with a Screw related outtake "Psychedelic Harps". The two tracks on the 10" were recorded in May 1969 under the supervision of Pink Floyd drummer Nick Mason whilst the CD features a twin psychedelic mouth harp jam that was part of Screw's set. With nods towards Captain Beefheart, the Misunderstood and Free, the band featured Chris Turner (harmonica), Al Kinnear (guitar), Nick Brotherwood (drums), Stan Scrivener (bass) and Pete Hossell (vocals), and they played many gigs at the time including the Roundhouse, Eel Pie Island and the London Guildhall. Web - Theraphosa Blondi. CD. CD version ofthis album by UK psyche prog outfit the Web.It all started back in 1967 when the musicians Lennie Wright, Kenny Beveridge, Tom Harris, Tony Edwards and John Eaton moved to London and started a band they gave a rather hopeless name: John L. Watson and The Web. Watson was an American singer who had joined the band. The year after, the band wisely changed their name to just The Web, and recorded their first album called "Fully Interlocking". CD. ‘NY ’75’ was recorded live in front of a wildly enthusiastic audience at the legendary Calderone Theatre on Long Island, just half an hour from the centre of Manhattan. This is the first release of this concert on CD.The album shows how the Strawbs stage show had evolved from its early folk-inspired tunes into an almost continuous symphonic sequence of hard-hitting songs. The Strawbs came on stage in a blackout to a long-lost taped introduction, ‘Still Small Voice’. Among the established classics such as ‘Hero and ‘Heroine’ and ‘Ghosts’ were new offerings including ‘The Promised Land’, ‘To Be Free’, and ‘Hanging In The Gallery’ which have never appeared before on a live Strawbs album |
