Rainbow - Ritchie Blackmore's Rainbow. CD. (Polydor - 5473602)

CD re-issue of the first solo album by Purple's Ricardo Blackmore. It came about as he went into the studio with the members of the American band Elf to record "Black Sheep of the Family" and "16 C. Rainbow - Live In Dusseldorf 1976. Dble CD. (Purple Records - T2CD 110)

27 September 1976 and it's It's astonishing to hear the crowd chanting Ritchie onto the stage football terrace style - and he doesn't disappoint (except there's no encore - but after a set like this I'm not sure what more they could have given!). Very little of this show has ever appeared officially before - Live In Germany only used one song - but "Stargazer" and especially the first chunk of "Still I'm Sad" are simply excellent; hard rock was rarely harder than this. Ronnie Dio is in very strong form, confident enough to be taking liberties with the phrasing, whilst keeping on top of it all. Exhausting listening - but in the best possible way.Fully detailed booklet.

Rainbow - Live In Germany (Munich)1977. Dble CD. (Eagle - EDGCD315)

This double CD concert, from their European tour in 1977, features the line-up responsible for the Long Live Rock ā€˜n’ Roll album released later that year, including vocalist Ronnie James Dio and drummer Cozy Powell. Blackmore had to be smuggled out of Austria after a trouble with the police at a gig two nights earlier and was very late arriving in Munich, all of which seemed to inspire both the band and the audience to create a truly remarkable gig.
