Artist Listing : Rita Lee (Mutantes) (3 products)

Rita Lee (Mutantes) - Build Up. CD. (El - ACMEM44CD)

In 1970, Rita Lee, 'the Mutantes girl', was hitchhiking in Europe and maybe thinking about making her own record, which would turn out to be a "showcase" in the way of Serge Gainsbourg and Anna Karina or Brigitte Fontaine. It's a kind of odd pop record and most of Mutantes are involved, with her then boyfriend, Arnaldo Dias Baptista credited as musical director, and beautiful orchestration by Rogerio Duprat - who must be next in line after Jean-Claude Vannier for a belated gong. Rita Lee's singing is some of her best. A highlight on this record is on Georges Moustaki's 'Joseph', - translated by Nara Leao - and here Rita proves that she¹s just as good or maybe better, with a more traditional ballad, whilst 'Calma' would sound great on the first Mutantes album - Essential stuff

Rita Lee (Mutantes) - Hoje E O Primeiro Dia Do Resto Da Sua Vida. CD. (Rev Ola - CRREV154)

Featuring all of the original trio this solo release by the fabulous Rita Lee is the great lost Mutantes album! After Os Mutantes' early groundbreaking albums, Rita Lee decided to create her own space by launching a concurrent career as a solo singer.Unfortunately, her slightly wayward Rogerio Duprat-arranged debut failed to launch a straight pop career as well as neglecting almost everything people loved about Os Mutantes. After going back to the drawing board in 1972, Rita recruited her Os Mutantes colleagues Arnaldo and Sergio Baptista as well as other members of the music/art commune in which they all lived, to produce the follow-up. As different as day is from night, written by the original Os Mutantes trio of Rita, Arnaldo and Sergio and 'produced and directed' by Arnaldo, this second album is a masterpiece of Tropicalia/psychedelia with the spooky, comedown atmosphere of "Smiley Smile" to boot. To all intents and purposes, a virtual 'lost' fifth Os Mutantes album with Rita the dominant force. An amazing return to the perfect organised chaos of their first two albums and a total must have. A must for all fans of Tropicalia, Os Mutantes, Gal Costa, Brasilian music in general.

Rita Lee (Mutantes) - Hoje E O Primeiro Dia Do Resto Da Sua Vida. CD.

First solo album from Mutantes female lead singer, backed by the whole of Mutantes! The album is very much in the manic Mutantes vein, but enables Rita's crystal clear voice to shine through. Slightly less frenetic than usual then, but still retaining elements of that drug crazed Brazilian madness.....
