As he does have a prominent place in the history in the blues, Johnson has forty two numbers here; the rest of the compilation is made up of tracks by his contemporaries and followers: Bukka White, Tommy McClennan, Robert Petway, Honeyboy Edwards, Otto Virgial and Robert Lockwood. The six discs are housed in individual card wallets in a deluxe box which includes a definitive 44 page booklet including an exhaustive history and track details. A defining collection of an explosive and innovative time in history, this is the best of the blues between 1930 and 1951. Bargain price as well.
