Combining the traditions of music hall, The Goons and his own extraordinary take on psychedelia, this compilation compiles tracks from his first nine albums and comes complete with a well-packed booklet explaining all you need to know. If you don't already know Mr. Hitchcock, this is a great place to start.

Robyn Hitchcock - This Is The BBC. CD. (Hux Records - HUX074) Robyn Hitchcock has the lyrical vision of a latter-day Syd Barrett (albeit with his mentor's playful whimsy replaced by a more disturbing and squelchy vision) and is one of England's most enduring contemporary singer/songwriters and live performers. Hitchcock started his recording career in 1979 with the post-punk psychedelic group, The Soft Boys. His solo discography includes over 20 albums, released over the past quarter century, culminating in the 2004 LP, ‘Spooked’, a collaboration with Gillian Welch and David Rawlings.‘This Is The BBC’ was compiled by Robyn himself and features the best of his BBC radio sessions, recorded between 1995 & 1999. This compilation features unreleased versions of many favourite Hitchcock originals, along with Robyn’s unique interpretations of Bob Dylan’s ‘It Takes A Lot To Laugh, It Takes A Train To Cry’ and the traditional folk tune, ‘Polly On The Shore’.The accompanying 12 page full colour booklet includes photos and paintings by Robyn, song lyrics and an original Robyn Hitchcock poem.

Robyn Hitchcock - I Often Dream Of Trains. CD. (Yep Rock - YEP2612) This 1984 album expands upon the introspective leanings of 1981's Black Snake Diamond Role while further developing his signature lyrical imagery and spare, ominous melodies on this mostly acoustic album. Here Robyn's sharp humour sits comfortably alongside some of his most intimate ballads. Bonus tracks: "Chant/Aether", "Heart Full Of Leaves", "I Often Dream Of Trains (demo)" ," Not Even A Nurse", "Slow Chant/That's Fantastic Mother Church" and "Traveller's."

Robyn Hitchcock - Black Snake Diamond Role. CD. (Yep Rock - YEP2611) Hitchcock's first solo release, Black Snake Diamond Role was recorded during the final days of his influential post-punk combo the Soft Boys (it even features the other three members of the group: Boys Kimberly Rew, Matthew Seligman and Morris Windsor). Originally released in 1981, this star studded release also features the Vibrators guitarist Knox, Psychedelic Furs drummer Vince Ely and soon-to-be synth-pop star Thomas Dolby. The original ten track album has been expanded with eight bonus cuts (alternative versions and demos from the same session). Robyn Hitchcock - Eye. CD. (Yep Rock - YEP2613) A sort of sequel to I Often Dream of Trains, 1990's Eye is another stark, solo work that served as a creative shelter for Hitchcock at this time in his career. A real fans favouite, it is one of his most confessional releases despite the dense lyrical imagery. Bonus tracks: "Century" / "Shimmering Distant Love" / "Lovers Turn To Skulls" / "The Beauty Of Earl's Court."
