Roy Harper - The Unknown Soldier. CD. (Science Friction - HUCD031)

Harper's has cited the Unknown Soldier (1980) album as marking the real end of his relationship with EMI and Abbey road Studios, at the beginning of a new decade it was all-change for Harper as he delved further into in-organic sound and moved away from his acoustic roots. This album presents both his wonderful initial folk style and also his willingness to experiment with electronic and manipulated sounds. Excluding Jugula this was the last great Harper album until the 1990s and is a worthy addition to any collection. Features contributions from David Gilmour and Kate Bush.

Roy Harper - Jugula. CD. (Science Friction - HUCD033)

Jugula (1985) was the fifth project that Jimmy Page and Roy Harper had worked on together, but it was the first record that they made together in its entireity. Jimmy Page's guitar work on this record is quite stunning and it is essential fare for any Led Zep fan, not to mention fans of the never-less sardonic, witty miserablist Harper.

Roy Harper - HQ. CD. (Science Friction - HUCD019)

One of the greatest albums released by one of the UK's premier artists. Originally released in 1975 and taking a short sharp detour from the familiar territory of English Romanticism (which had just broken him in America) Harper created an awe-inspiring hard rock super-group to support him on his heavy excursion. The key ingredients were King Crimson/Yes drummer Bill Bruford, power guitarist Chris Spedding and Harper himself. They are abely supported by Pink Floyd's David Gilmour and Led Zep's bassist John Paul Jones on a number of other tunes. Highlights include the epic opener "The Game" and the closing "When An Old Cricketer Leaves The Crease".

Roy Harper - Green Man. CD. (Science Friction - HUCD033)

Green Man, Harper's most recent album (2001) received rave reviews upon its release and is considered on a par with landmark albums such as "Flat Baroque and Berserk" and "Stormcock". Almost entirely acoustic, this album present Harper the isolationist, hiding in his studio and creating intensely personal songs. Deeply introspective stuff. Simply enticing, this is a must.

Roy Harper - Flat Baroque And Berserk. CD. (Science Friction - HUCD028)

1970 album from the great British guitarist. This was his first to enter the UK charts and its quality is undeniable. With three very accomplished yet un-named musicians Harper conjurs the impressive "Hell's Angel" which is a more of a solid rock affair than Harper had released up to this point and has been likened to Syd Barrett's solo work. Also features the wonderfully notorious "I Hate the White Man", I'll leave the judgement of that one up to you! The great man himself has claimed this is one of his favourite of his own albums!

Roy Harper - Return Of The Sophisticated Beggar. CD. (B.G.O. Records - BGOCD771)

Timely reissue of Roy Harper’s first album (Sophisticated Beggar), originally released in 1966 on Miki Dallon’s Strike label and remastered for the very first time. Despite the primitive settings, Harper's scrambled lyricism backed by some warm British Folk melodies are already in place. Slipcased and digitally remastered.

Roy Harper - Stormcock. CD. (Science Friction - HUCD047)

Digitally re-mastered edition of the 1971 record Stormcock. This is perhaps his most consistant release of the era, the four songs highlighting his revelatory solo acoustic guitar style, at times backed by lush orchestrations (as well as a guest spot for Jimmy Page) and his passionate anti religious / anti war lyrics. A brilliant mixture of folk, rock and jazz, one of the best albums of the era. Tracklisting: "Hors D'oeuvres", "One Man Rock 'n' Roll Band", "Same Old Rock" and "Me And My Woman."
