Serge Gainsbourg was the dirty old man of popular music; a French singer/songwriter and provocateur notorious for his voracious appetite for alcohol, cigarettes, and of course women. This 16 track LP covers his works with Brigitte Bardot on "Bonnie and Clyde," through to the brilliant "Valse de Melody".Excellent starting point for the novice and a good selection for the completist.
Approximatley 280 minutes of footage from one of the true legends of French music (even though he was actually Turkish!!), the chainsmoking doctor of L-U-R-V-E, the man who broke a hundred hearts and stole twice as many virtues. All songs in full and presented chronologically by decade- everything from postwar sleaze cabaret throgh to 80s disco tack, reggae excursions with Sly and Robbie, psychedelic gems, unseen 60s TV clips, suitably enigmatic interviews (including 'that one' where he makes it quite clear what he would like to do to Whitney Houston- never mind Serge, it takes all sorts), the promo for 'Bonnie And Clyde' with Brigitte Bardot, and the full 33-minute film made to accompany the 'Histoire De Melody Nelson' album. And you thought Queen invented promo videos!! This is the absolute nads and your collection isn't complete without it.
Vinyl repro of this killer french-pop/soundtrack album by Serge Gainsbourg, the master himself, on this excellent soundtrack from 1970 that also featured featuring Jane Birkin. The title track "Cannabis" is an amazing weird psychedelic tune and re-occurs through the album ,while the reaminder is pure Gainsbourg at his most out there. Great stuff and very limited.Exact repro down to the label.
Fantastic! This may well be Gainsbourg's greatest album ever -- a whole suite based around a spare, electric bass-driven theme, with Serge muttering the lyrics in a raspy loud whisper, while funky rhythms dart in and out of washes of strings and eerie sounds. There's a very strong soundtrack feel to the album, as washes of music envelop the lyrics, tripped out in funky beats that have become legendary over the years, thanks to some very famous samples. Titles include "En Melody","Cargo Culte", "Ballade De Melody Nelson", "Valse De Melody", "Ah!Melody", and "L'Hotel Particulier".
